Loss and Grief in Second Life: In Memoriam of all the John and Jane Does' who have Lost their Souls – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Life is made of gains, starting with the birth itself, and losses like death.
There is no escape for the many events that afflict our souls, not even in Second Life. We create bonds of affection with other residents: friendships, relationships in love and in business, family. Yet, no one conceives that those same people who have crossed our path to give us a piece of them may not be there one day.

Fashion Colours for Fall - Tea Couturier Reporting...

Colours that are in for each season can be confusing because they are always changing with what is hot on today’s runways. Traditionally warm earthy colours are used for Autumn/Fall; usually matching the leaves when fall arrives.

Warm colours such as browns, reds and oranges work perfectly for fall. Here are a few fall choices I found and feel is a perfect start to begin creating your fall wardrobe.

DeeTaleZ *THROWOUT* thick knit sweater comes in lovely fall colors. It is rich in color. This will work well with pants or jeans with pumps and shoes. Sweaters are perfect for fall and this is not a thick sweater so can be worn with a blouse underneath to complement it.

Avie Poll: What does your name mean? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

Can you imagine what would it be like to have no name?
It would be a complete chaos and would change the way of communicating as we know it today. While in real life we are limited to the name given at birth, in Second Life we have the freedom to choose a name as an indicator of anonymity and yet, as our personal and in-transmissible identification card to the virtual world.

The fact that we can choose our name makes it very special, whether because it has a symbolic character, because it’s funny, meaningful or simply because we identify with it. But our task of choosing may not be that simple in our first steps before entering the doors of Second Life, especially if we want that very specific name and we face with the message “name already in use” during the registration process. Second Life’s new feature to have a display name offers us a second chance to choose it right.

While most times others can read our names beyond the written characters; our gender, your nationality, a first impression of our role in SL, sometimes we find people with names we cannot even pronounce if we try. Who never had to copy the name of a friend or a stranger in his/her profile before starting a conversation?

The SLE wandered the streets of Second Life searching for unusual names and asking people: What does your name mean? We would like to thank all the participants.

It is also for those who wish to extend their interests in Second Life.

Zooby Babies Establish Charity Collection- Stareyes Galaxy reporting…

Earlier in October, a real-life (RL) news story came to light exposing an alleged child-abuse and neglect case in Tulsa, OK, U.S.A.

A RL couple had nearly starved to death their 3-year-old baby spending all their time online.
Apparently this couple had a Zooby Baby in Second Life © (SL) and when Zooby
Babies learned of the incident, the owners, Malyssa Black and Christian Mercer
reacted and set up a charity donation in-world for the Alliance for Children’s Rights.

Visit Zoobyville and help us bring awareness to others in the fight against child abuse

Meet Selina Greene, Owner of Book Island- Piers Diesel Reporting...

Books in Real Life are as popular as they are in Second Life. It is a way for people to either educate themselves. Flick threw magazines for inspiration or to get away and engulf themselves in another world or life.

The Book Island owned by Selina Greene who cleverly came up with the idea of a sim totally dedicated to books and other reading format. Book Island has incorporated the book club idea and taken it to another level; where others can immerse themselves in books or discuss literature with others. Other activities include socializing at events hosted on Book Island.

Selina was kind enough to sit down with me and chat about her creation and how Book Island came about.

Avie Poll: Regrets in SL: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

In our favor or against us, at some times in our lives a sense of regret takes hold of us.
Regret is one of those feelings that seem to trouble everyone's life, even our virtual ones.  If socializing in a multicultural virtual world means sharing cultures, experiences and ways of living, it also means dealing with opposing ideas, actions and moral and ethical values which may lead to incompatibilities.

What makes us unique individuals, our own way of thinking and acting is present in everything we do and when interacting with other people.  A less friendly or misjudged behavior or attitude, a word placed in the wrong moment, a thoughtless action or any other decisions can trigger negative reactions and a whirlwind of negative feelings that may result in broken ties, lost friendships or any other consequences to the various degrees of seriousness.

Dealing with the consequences of our actions is not easy but living with regret is painful. Sadness, self-punishment, concert are words that best describe how you feel after hurting somebody or even yourself.  So how can you cope with regret?

We traveled the streets of Second Life and the SL Forums asking residents the question: Regrets in Second Life - Is there anything you wish you never did in SL? The SLE would like to thank those who have promptly agreed to participate.

Daylight Savings Ends on November 3rd. Don't Forget to Turn your Clock Back 1 Hour - November 3 @ 2 am (USA)

What is daylight Savings about?

Daylight saving time
(DST)—also summer time in British English— is the practice of advancing clocks during the lighter months so that evenings have more daylight and mornings have less. Typically clocks are adjusted forward one hour near the start of spring and are adjusted backward in autumn

Parallel Universes Part I: IMVU – Stareyes Galaxy Reporting

IMVU boasts 100 million accounts and the concurrent logins are at 50 000 level. The company itself is based in the Silicon Valley and they have backing from several well-known venture capital investors. The target demographic for the community is the 18-24 year-old bracket. On sign-up, personal data is required, so some content will be locked for underage users. The minimum sign-up age is 13.
Doing interviews on Second Life (SL) I often have found people who have transferred their online existence from IMVU over to SL. For these new avatars entering SL, the openness and the variety found here is often bewildering but liberating at the same time. I decided to set up an account on IMVU and see what that world is all about, and how the experience compares with SL.

Avie Poll: Is Second Life just a Game or is it an Extension of your Real Life? – Glossom Resident Reporting…

It is common knowledge that Second Life is a three-dimensional virtual environment where users can socialize, simulate real life events or give wings to their imagination and dreams.
The debate on its definition is endless, yet it’s up to each resident to define this virtual world for the posture we assume when we login. Quoting Linden Lab’s slogan “Your world, your imagination”, the truth is that Second Life is what we make of it. A Game? An extension of real Life? You call the shots.

Join Golfers from Around the Globe at Emerald Crystal Golf Course

The origin of Golf is unclear but most would accept that it's modern 18 hole golf course came from Scotland in the Middle Ages. It became popular in the 19th century in the United Kingdom and eventually spread to the United States. In the year 2013, it can be found in Second Life!

We have certainly come a long way from throwing rocks and swinging sticks for amusement.

Lumiya: The Second Life© viewer for Android devices – Stareyes Galaxy reporting ....

Aside from the usual way of connecting to Second Life © (SL) on a personal computer, applications are available for connecting on the grid via mobile devices. SL Enquirer has previously reported on Pocket Metaverse for the iOS; now we will look into the Android OS and the Lumiya application. Stareyes Galaxy got herself the application and went out to test it on SL.

There are many times in life when I might want to stay in touch with my SL friends while having no access to a computer. Often, in public places, WiFi is available for free and sitting down with a cup of coffee having a chat with friends could easily be done with a mobile phone.

Lumiya is an authorized third-party viewer (TPV) for mobile Android devices. The TPV list for Android includes two other viewers as well, “LittleSight” and “Mobile Grid Client” but Lumiya seems to be more prevalent than the other two among Android users.  Lumiya can be found in the “Google Play” store and it costs USD 3.46 to download. The client is 5.20 Mb in memory, so it is really a light weight application.

Happy Halloween Second Lifers!- Orchids Reporting…

Halloween  or the "All Hallows' Evening" is near!  And so is
the time for making jack-o'-lanterns and dressing up for Halloween parties, but do you know the real story behind this holiday?
This is an old Irish myth about a man "Stingy Jack." Stingy Jack once invites the Devil to have a drink with him and tricks the devil to turn himself into a coin. Jack puts the coin into his pocket with a silver cross. The devil could not change back into his original form till he promised Jack  that he would not bother him for one year and if should Jack die, he would not claim his soul.
Come next year, Jack again tricks the devil into climbing into a tree to pick fruit and carves a sign of the cross into the tree's bark so the devil could not come down until  he promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.

Soon after, Jack dies. God would not allow such a cheat into heaven. The devil, being upset with Jack and keeping his word not to claim his soul, wouldn’t allow Jack into hell. He sends Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and as the legend goes, roams the Earth with ever since. This ghostly figure came to be known as "Jack of the Lantern," and then, simply "Jack O'Lantern."
In Ireland and Scotland, people carved scary faces into turnips or potatoes. In England, large beets were used. Immigrants from these countries brought the Jack o' Lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found that pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make perfect jack-o'-lanterns.

There are many ways to celebrate the ghostly spirit of Halloween in SL ! Here are a few ways..
