Building for Dummies – Vapor Paragorn Reporting…

Building
in SL is not only fun, it's a good outlet for your creativity. You can express
your imagination and ideas. You can build almost everything that you imagine.
By using the right textures and creatively shaping prims, you can recreate
everything in SL that you see around you in real life.
The possibilities are
endless with the building tools available and the numbers of ways you can shape
prims. Building is the core of every virtual world. Everything we use in SL is
made by someone for our use. Many Avies
are curious about how things are made. For example, how a simple prim (box) can
be shaped so intelligently to create all the things we see around us.
Our curiosity leads us to experimentation and
that's how most of us learn the basics of building. Experimenting is a fun way of
learning and its always encouraged, but still there are some residents who want
to try building but somehow they hesitate. It’s either due to lack of knowledge
or they fear that they might mess up things in doing so. Good news is, SL
building may appear as a complicated task at first, but when you learn the
basics then most things become easier. This article will focus on the basics of
SL building and will equip you with essential know-how.
Hair Issues in Second Life – Stareyes Galaxy Reporting...

Hair is an
issue for all avatars. We scratch our heads trying to find the perfect hair for
different occasions, often rummaging in our inventories and coming up with
nothing that fits the theme. For avatars with recurring hair woes, how do hair
designers cater to their needs? How are the seemingly contradicting
expectations with regard to style, colors, naturalness, and compatibility with
clothes and the social occasion met by designers? I went hair shopping to find
out.
Before going
blindly about the grid, poking my head in stores, standing on model stands,
tweaking prims, and changing colors and outfits, I asked the “Fabulously Free
in SL” group about their favorite hair stores. There were many that deserve
mention, but Truth, Elikatira (formerly ETD), ChiChickie, BiZaRRe HaiR, and
Alli & Ali were mentioned more than once. Truth is most famous for their
mesh hair designs, and as I happened to wear Truth hair, I decided to
concentrate on some other stores to explore their offering.

Mother’s Day Wishes From Lanai

Mother’s Day
is Here!
It is a day once a year that we collectively show our mothers some
love and appreciation for all the stuff they had to put up with throughout our
childhood, those pain in the ass teenage years and even the headaches into
adulthood. We all came into this world screaming and being all needy.
Mom was
the one up all hours of the night, changing diapers, administering that nasty
medicine, kissing boo boos and pretending Santa, the tooth fairy and the Easter
Bunny were real until she had to break the truth to you before you hit middle
school.
There may
have been times when you thought mom was ruining your life when she embarrassed
you in front of friends, made you do chores or get your first job for those
expensive clothes and gadgets you wanted in high school. It may not have seemed
like it was in your best interest back then but mom was only trying to help
mold you into the adult you are today.
You may have some regrets for times you worried her grey or acted up and almost got kicked out, but mom was always
there when you needed a ride home from being stranded in the rain, needed money or you cried to her for relationship advice. The mama’s boys know all
about that!

Working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to maintain a household, kids, and her own sanity is enough to warrant a special day. Celebrate your mom with these amazing events around the grid!
Like myself, most people begrudgingly shop for the perfect gift for those highly publicized special days of the year like Christmas and Easter. Mother's Day, however, signifies the one day of the year that you can freely stop to reflect on all the gifts your mother has given you throughout your life. Stretchmarks, growing impatience, and stress are the wrapped packages she's used to receiving from her precious little offspring, but it would make her happy to receive something a little less invasive for a change.

As Mother’s Day is fast
approaching in the States, if you are in Second Life, you might be asking if or
how you can become a mother in Second Life. There are various ways to become a
mother, you can give “birth” or even “adopt” prim based children or kid
avatars.
I decided to get together a group of moms in Second Life, in order to
find out what exactly is the process of becoming a mum (mom if you are on the
other side of the pond) in Second Life. I later would dub this group the
“mummy panel”.

Our Reporter In The Field: Writing For A Virtual Newspaper-Mackenzie Abbot Reporting...

The
greatest thing about Second Life is that you can be who you want to be. You can be over 7 foot tall with abs
you could stop a train with, or a sex siren with massive.....potential,
regardless of who you are or what you look like in the real world.
You can live your dream, usually instantly,
and without qualifications or long boring interviews. My personal dream is to be a radio DJ; the
closest I've got to that is DJ-ing in a club a few days a week. But I've always secretly wanted to be a
journalist. So you can imagine my
delight when I found out about the SL Enquirer.
Writing
for a virtual newspaper might sound a bit silly to some people, and the more
pedantic among you will say you're not actually writing for a newspaper,
merely a blog with idea's above it station.
But, as most of the people here in Second Life know already, none of
this is real. The only thing that's real
about Mackenzie Abbot, or you, gentle reader, is the person behind the
avatar. We all know that the reality is
far from what our avatars lead people onto be.
I'm 7 foot tall, have blonde hair and a washboard stomach to die for. In reality I'm 5 foot 10 inches tall with
wild brown hair and a belly that goes
around corners before I do. Ladies...?
So
if you yearn to write for a virtual living, how do you go about it?

Entering Second Life in May of 2005 was nothing like it
is today. Everywhere I looked, there were smut shops and escorts working every
street corner. Online relationships and
drama were plenty while voice chat was nonexistent, letting many gender
imposters get away with “catfishing” before the term became mainstream.
Many avies were amateur
strippers working the pole or shamelessly handing out lap dances for lindens
used to save up for a small rental property to call home. Real estate was
popular then, just as it is now, but there were more slum lords and greedy land
barons that bought land at a low price, altered it and turned around and sold
it for an obscene amount just for high profits. Land bots were also an
annoyance that would do a sweep of land and buy up everything. It seemed like a
scavenger invasion of griefers and Alts more than a grid of opportunity and
creativity for decent professionals or those with artistic skills like it is
today.
Freebie lots and small shops bombarded the grid and beta
testers were just wrapping up. Banks, Casinos and Gambling were popular and
noobies were everywhere! There were also
more Linden workers on the grid until many of their jobs were slashed.

Often times, our busy real lives keep us from
our second lives. But what if you could take second life anywhere?
As we all know, mobile technology has really taken off in the last few years. We can do virtually anything from ordering a pizza, to making a bill payment online. Now that the tech world has advanced even further, gaming apps are also readily available. As an avid second life user with a busy real life, I needed a way to keep up with business clients, friends and other activities in second life. As I recently switched from android to Iphone, I was unsure of what I would find. I was thrilled to stumble upon an app called Pocket Metaverse.

We can say Fashion is a big part of
our SL lives. What we wear signifies who we are and what message we are
projecting about ourselves. However, clothes are not the only way to express
one’s self. You can use bodywear jewelry to do this too.
What
is bodywear jewelry, you ask?
Bodywear jewelry is big in Second

explain this jewelry in more depth I could not think of a better creator than Kimber
Carter who herself creates one of the biggest range of Bodywear jewelry in SL

Mesh clothing has taken the grid by storm, since Linden Lab started allowing
mesh uploads over a year ago.
As an
apparent answer to their clothing woes,
especially female shoppers have made it a necessity for designers to change
over to mesh completely, or at least to open sections of mesh clothing in their
stores. However, despite its seemingly great benefits, mesh does not completely
solve all problems of traditional Second Life clothing.

The
term “sailing” is a bit of a misnomer, given that it encompasses everything to
do with boats, regardless of whether they have sails or not.
It's a little difficult to think about sailing
as a whole, without thinking of millionaires in luxury yachts or retired folks
in their narrow-boats. But then again,
there's the freedom of the high seas and the ability to speak like a pirate
without getting taken away by men in white coats. I have had a keen interest in sailing since a
friend of mine invited me onto her friend’s boat. We pointed the boat in the right direction
and just kept going. As soon as she let
me have a go at being skipper, I was hooked.
I bought my boat the next day and never looked back. So which boat should you buy? Where do you moor the thing once you've
bought it? How much does it cost a month?
I decided to find out.
Where
Do I Start?
If
your sailing knowledge equates to knowing who Popeye is, then you're not alone. Nobody is born an expert at anything; we all
need pointing in the right direction and, thankfully, there are yacht and boat
clubs all over Second Life. If you just
want a boat you can jump into and get going with, there are freebie boats in
the Marketplace and at Yacht clubs. One
such club is the Trade Winds Yacht Club (http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dex/139/48/25).
They
have a few freebie boats for beginners as well as free clothes (including the
absolutely necessary Captain's Hat).
However, if you want something a bit more flash than a 2 seater wooden
dinghy, then you're going to need some lindens sailor! However, depending on what you want, and
where you look, you may not have to part with that much to a decent little
craft.

Boat Would Suit Me Best?

Cinco De Mayo is also known as El Dia de la Batalla de
Pueble. It marks a day in history when the Mexican army celebrated it’s victory
over France in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco- Mexican War . It was a battle that lasted 6 years. Since the defeat, the United
States has adopted the holiday turning it onto a celebration of Mexican
heritage and culture. It is very popular where there are higher concentrations
of the Mexican-American populations, like Los Angeles, Houston, and
Chicago. It is also observed in many cities across the states. In 2005, Congress
issued a concurrent resolution to the President for appropriate ceremonies and activities. Celebrations on
this day include festivals, dancing,
Mexican food, drinking and mariachi performances. In Second Life it is
also observed by Many.
I found a couple of places having activities for Cinco
De Mayo so grab your camera and let's go party hopping. You will most likely meet new people, get involved
in the festivities and have fun!
Check out whats going on this weekend!

Black house is a newly opened cabaret
venue, where they claim to portray darker Side of burlesque. It was opened on February
22, 2013 with their first burlesque show.
It
is located in an adult region featuring up beat music and burlesque events
throughout the week. Upon entering the place you will land in middle of roadway
surrounded by Gothic atmosphere. While walking towards the theater building you
will find few vendors and ad boards on old rusted walls. On the ad boards you
can advertise your own venue or other services. The main theater building is
designed in an old fashioned 70's western structure. It has a mysterious feel.
At the theater's entrance you will be welcomed by classic movies posters,
feathered on gallery wall. They also have their DJ's and staff member’s posters
outside main hall's entrance. In the front lobby you will find a surprising kinky
showcase, with different kinds of adult content. That will give you a hint
about the surprise factor in black house burlesque shows.
Black
House Theater has two levels. At the ground level they have a big stage area surrounded
by dance poles. There is a bar on one side and many fine dining in front and
side of stage area for settling in and enjoying the show. There are dining
tables and chairs on second level as well with a terrace view of stage area
down below.
Black
House Theater's whole interior is pleasantly dim, which gives it a cozy feel. They
have fancy lighting effects and they design creative sets for each performance. Performers act and dance to rocking musical tracks,
dressed in specially designed costumes.
If you are tired of regular clubs and theme
events and you are more into the Adult scene then Black House cabaret is
recommended for you. They claim to provide unique kinds of entertainment that
you won't find elsewhere in SL.
I talked to co-owner Shayia Resident to know
more about this fascinating venue.

Sunshine has some very important qualities besides
brightening your day. It warms the soul and keeps you in a good mood. In Second
Life sunlight is controlled by you. It depends on your mood and the environment
you set for exploring.
Let me take you on a tour of Sunshine’s Cove at Spirit
Marina owned and operated by Pachy Artis and Bo Sharpshire. This is a sim where
you will meet great people and have lots of things to do. You can take a stroll
along the shop lined streets where you can find fashions from XTC Leather, Lulu
and Fine Photography by The Skeleton key. Shop space is available for new and
seasoned designers to showcase their collections. This sim has something for
everyone.
Sunshine’s Cove also has complimentary freebies for
guests. They include an assortment of complete avatars, skins, various shapes
and clothing items for both men and women. Wedding services are also available for those
love birds looking for a place to tie the knot. Brides to be can pick out their
dream wedding dress, bouquet, poses and decorations with the help of a
consultant.
Are you a party animal? Check out the outdoor venue that
plays great top 40’s hits, rock, pop and the wild and crazy 80’s. The sim is
open daily from 2pm-8pm SLT and welcomes anyone, even mermaids that can explore
the underwater hangout or blood thirsty Bloodline Vampires and their need to
feed. For Zombie Slayers, there is a designated zone to grab a high powered
rifle and blast away at the ghouls. Be sure to wear the HUD and gain stats on
the body count you lay out in a flurry of gun blastin’.
Are you a Greedy Greedy addict? Grab some dice and get it
rollin! They got a game table just for
you and your friend.
Explore the Sinners & Saints Diligo Prosapia Castle
where Queens Vivienne Vesuvino, Aphrodite Pyrithea and King Memnotichlan and
their clan members await fresh blood.
Did I mention Sunshine’s Cove is also home to the one and
only Paramount Playhouse Burlesque Shows? Be sure to check them out for show
times. You won’t be disappointed by their performances.
I recently met up with Pachy Artis to learn more about

Second Life is full of activities, events, role play, and more. We often find that we just can’t get enough, but what keeps us so interested?
Virtual life on the grid is a bustling blur of daily work for many. It can be both enjoyable and fulfilling, and you can achieve your greatest dreams. It is a place of freedom, where you can be your true self without the worries of what others may think. For some, second life has an even deeper meaning. Avatars keep coming back because of the connections, love, and even the ability to communicate with others due to the inability to get out in real life.
I got to speak with some amazing people to find out just why second life means so much to them, and what keeps them coming back for more. I had them write their reasons in their own words. You can see the differences in culture not only in the answers, but in their writing style as well.

Second Life is full of adventures and all sorts of things
to do, but sometimes you need to sift through your inventory of gadgets and
bust out some weaponry to handle your business and protect yourself from
griefers, zombies or those e-gangsters and their goons on the combat role play
sims.
It’s a vicious job with lots of bloodshed but someone needs to rack up on
the body count and keep things in check. What happens if you don’t have weapons
to protect yourself? You better run and teleport to Exclusive Weapons!
Let us point you in the right direction where you will
find weapons, shields, magic spell casters and protection tools to help you
feel safe and secure in areas you are not familiar with. There are even
monitoring tools to protect your business too.
Recently I met Roby Tandino, the proprietor of Exclusive
Weapons. This store is one of the
longest running Weapons distributors in Second Life boasting 6 years of
providing protection to the community. Their best clients are informed clients
and The SL Enquirer is here to help spread the word.

Egoisme is proud to introduce the Satins & Silks Collection.
These outfits are so soft you can almost feel them even in the virtual world of Second Life. Fresh new Spring looks with a touch of class and sophistication. These outfits can go from day to evening. Everything you could possibly want for the perfect effortless choice and still look fabulous as you strut your stuff through Second Life.
This collection offers the choice between two tops. The first is an elegant off the shoulder look with a bow that subtly enhances every womans assets. The soft caress of satin against your shoulders as you wear it. Fitted bodice to show off that summer ready body thinly veiled under the most expensive looks in day to evening wear.
The second look is a sexy strapless top. The virtual world will be glad for the fun in the sun look. This one is beautifully fitted around the waist to highlight the delicate curves of the beautiful female form. Silky and smooth light weight fabrics drape beautifully and feel heavenly against your skin as the spring breezes blow.
