Spotlight Feature Interview with Linda Lauren, SLE’s Astrologer, 4THGeneration Psychic Medium and Author of Hostage in Time Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

"Hostage in Time"  Book Launch Party in NYC by Linda Lauren!

Interview

Lanai Jarrico: Hi Linda! It’s always great to chat it up with you. You always have something going on and also some very cool events coming up in September and November. Let’s start by letting our readers know what you do and how you found Second Life?

Linda Lauren: I am a 4th generation Psychic Medium, Energy Artist, Pet Psychic and Reiki Practitioner both in real life and in Second Life.  I discovered SL around 2006 through a few podcasts I was following at the time.  I wasn’t on very long before I decided to become a paid resident and was soon asked to do readings for a Halloween event.  We had a lot of crashing back then and I needed an assistant to help with crowd control and appointments.  I asked my RL and SL Business Manager, (Sumi Portola in-world) to join so she could help!

Visit Valentino’s, 9/11 Memorial at Stagg Park

9/11 is a day observed each year by residents in Second Life and around the world. It marks a day of remembrance of the thousands of lives lost to the terrorist attack that brought down the world trade center in New York City in 2001.

There are no services planned for this Memorial, but we welcome you to visit Stagg Island and observe the walls of names of those lost to this tragic event in our history. Fazio Magic will be allowing objects to be rezzed at the memorial from September 9th until September 12th. Contact him if you wish to participate.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Relay For Life of Second Life shatters records in 2011, raises US$375,000 for cancer research

Relay For Life, the signature fundraising event of the American Cancer Society, has once again shattered records in Second Life.
Less than halfway through the 2011 Relay season, the Relay For Life of Second Life had already raised more than one million dollars all-time.
At the Wrap-Up Party on Saturday, August 20, 2011 Event Chair MamaP Beerbaum proudly announced that the seventh Relay For Life of Second Life had set a new season fundraising record of US$375,000, had a record number of 140 teams, and a record number of over 3,000 relayers.
This year’s theme was ‘Seasons of Hope’ and was the largest to date, with a track lined by luminaria winding through 41 sims of amazing builds representing the different seasons. Some 2,140 avatars completed one or more laps, a combined total of 3,486 laps, and visited the campsites and the designer sims. And 4,817 luminaria were lit in support of loved ones going through treatment, and in memory of those heroes who have passed on.

SLE Business Scoop – Are you role playing Business in SL? Here are some very helpful hints on starting a business from scratch. Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

I’ve been in Second Life long enough to throw my two cents in when it comes to business. I’m no oracle that claims to know it all but some things are no brainers.  I have met many peeps in this virtual world that take business seriously and others well…let’s just say are still in the practice stages. Some of the problems that we face in virtual business today are the technical difficulties that can frazzle ones creativity or prolong the process of creating products and putting them in the virtual market. Let's view those issues as our virtual "natural disasters". There isn't really much we can do about those, except brave the bad  SLweather and carry on.

One of the first things any establishment here in Second Life needs is a strong foundation. You can’t build a sandcastle and expect it to withstand the winds of change that occur here on a regular basis.

Lanai’s Diary Monday August 29, 2010 Quakes, Hurricanes and floods OH My!

Well…Hurricane Irene has passed but not without slapping up the East coast.  By the time it started really raining down on us over here in  Northeast Pa, the winds were a bit weakened from the initial 90 MPH winds being reported when it began. This carried on from Saturday night into early Sunday morning.  The major concern for my area was flooding. It caused some roads to shut down, the first day of school was cancelled and we ended up with about 4 inches of water in the basement.  Since flooding has happened in the past, the majority of our belongings were in plastic bin, with the exception of some loose toys, Christmas ornaments, a guitar, an Xbox, 2 TVs, a treadmill , bowflex  and some cardboard boxes that are now sitting out with the trash as fans dry out the basement to prevent mold.  It could have been much worse, so I am thankful and relieved that my friends and family are all good and the sun is now shining again.  Next time, I’ll turn the subpump on…

BREAKING NEWS: August 23, 2011- A 5.9 Earthquake shakes the Eastcoast around 2:30 pm est today. It’s Epicenter was in Richmond, Virginia. Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

* This Earthquake was downgraded to 5.8 at 4:15pm EST August 23, 2011
While working on SLE news propped up in my bed, I felt the entire room shake, at first I thought it was one of my kids playing a prank on me like they do, because my bed literally began to shake as if someone grabbed my bedpost and was shaking it. This continued for a good 5-10 seconds, I abruptly got up to look for the source pulling the prank and realized it wasn’t just my bed moving but everything, including  the heavy  stained glass light fixture in my foyer. I called to my daughter, who was watching television and asked her if she felt it and within a few minutes news started to flood my iphone from family and friends including all of the news sources I have on push notice.

With natural disasters seeming to come more frequently, I never would have thought an earthquake would hit this close to home. I live in a pretty safe place in Pennsylvania and the most I have ever felt was weakened hurricane winds and rain coming from the Atlantic, a few feet of snow, some flooding in the lower regions and tornado warnings, but nothing like this!

Only in the past five years have I seen an increase in the strength of these natural disasters and can now add possible earthquakes to the list.

As I write this, peeps in Washington DC and the Pentagon are evacuating for safety. Here in the northeast part of Pa, there doesn’t seem to be any damage, I am safe and my home is intact.

I hope that those directly affected by this event are now safe and for those around the world just hearing the news, here is the latest developments from where I am.

What caused this earthquake in Virginia?

May 2011 saw the entry of another fiction. The only thing different about it was that this book was a test subject for some marketing experiments. The results were staggering. This was done with minimal to no cost using skills easily obtained from online tutorials. This book is a must have tool for today’s indie authors to promote their work to a massive audience for a minimal cost.

Lanai’s Diary: 8-21-11- Going out in RL is similar to Going out in SL, except for one thing… Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Waking up at 11 am this morning, the first thing I said to myself was “OMG, What Happened Last night!?!

This weekend kicked off fairly normal as I got up nice and early Saturday. I was up before everyone else and woke them all up when I turned on the stereo to some  HIP-HOP on full blast and started cleaned my house to satisfy my mild OCD. It’s a routine that everyone in this house knows, including my little miniature pinscher, ”Hollywood”, and  he still attacks my vacuum like a rabbit raccoon. I don’t get it.

Anyways, with school about to get back in session, I took my kids shopping as my husband went to be a Judge in the 1st annual Mafia Car Show at the Allentown Fairgrounds.

SLE Review: Atlantis Swingers Resort and Spa is the place to see it all! FEATURING A NEW BAND EVERY SUNDAY @ 6PM SLT Shay Dalek Reporting...

Shay Dalek Meditating

Atlantis Swingers Spa and Resort officially opened its doors last Sunday with a huge bang .Drawing over 50 people to its first live concert on the beach, party goers were treated to Def Leopard presented by the Rock Shoppe.  Shortly before 6pm SLT, the crowd began to gather and mingle and the atmosphere was electrifying.  People began to fall in from the midnight sky, from the prompt patron to the fashionably late, all gathered to claim their spot on the beach.  It isn’t a rock concert unless there is at least one head-banger in the crowd, and that night, there were several.  From the itty bitty bikinis to the full onslaught of head to toe leather ensembles, Def Leopard lovers gathered from far and wide, and beneath the glittery tropical night sky, a fantastic time was had by all.

SL Enquirer: Metastock 2011 Rocks Second Life! Cynamon pearl reporting...

Metastock 2011 peformance artist competition rocked Second Life this past weekend with twenty artists performing for Grand prize of 500usd. The event kicked off without a hinge leaving a lasting impression.

Although, their weren’t any long haired patchouli wearing hippis at Metastock this past weekend, Metastock’s launch in Second Life will no doubt linger indefinitely. The digital equivalent of Woodstock came to the Grid and dropped some of the best emerging talent that a virtual world has to offer. This live artist contest-event was brought to you buy Metatunes, “Itunes for the Metaverse” the Itunes equivalent in virutual worlds. The Metastock concept is un-precedented providing not only a platform for artists to promote themselves but a web based music distribution site for artists to liscence and sell their music.

AN SLE Exclusive: Is Second Life to blame for a failed marriage? One man shares his heart-wrenching story Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Recently, I met a new resident of Second Life that stumbled upon our media center in his quest to find some answers on a very serious topic.  He claimed to be exploring this virtual world to figure out why his wife of 28 years, would leave him for someone she met here.

After revealing his real intention of becoming a resident, he said he probably shouldn’t have shared that information right off the bat with me, but after listening to some of the things he was saying, I explained that I had been in this virtual culture a long time and can understand all sides to this type of situation.

It is not an uncommon issue I hear about.  As uncomfortable as it may sound, Second Life© is the perfect place for people who feel lonely or need a creative outlet to be their true selves.

We can all recognize we live in a world that dictates a lot of “norms” on what is considered, taboo, right or wrong. It happens in politics, religion, business and even in one’s own emotional and human needs.

In virtual worlds and social networks across the Internet people are indulging in the many things they wish they can do or experience without the travel time and expenses incurred by such activities.

SPOTLIGHT FEATURE: Vintage Amore Photography Studio brings a new angle to Photography Services in Second Life© -Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Vintage Amore was founded by Kavi Aldrin and her partner Sluuge Resident. With 2 years experience under their belts, they have worked in photo studios in the real world. With aspirations of starting a business, they established their presence here in Second Life© including stores and Sluuge’s Breedables, finally saving up enough Lindens to launch the Vintage Amore Photography Studio.

I have to say, after my tour of Vintage Amore, I was very impressed. It was no cheap skybox with outdated pose balls and a chair in the middle of the room.  It had a grand gallery style entrance with a red carpet rolled out before me.  This is where I met up with Kavi and Sluuge.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: Stories are Alive for the Telling!

"The Storyteller" Dogstar telling tales.
“Everything is a story. What is there but stories?  Stories are the only truth . . . we had power over our own stories.  We shaped our world as we wished it to be. It was our glory.”

-“Gian Hen Gian” from Christopher Moore’s Practical Demonkeeping.

A bit over a month ago I heard a story presentation by someone I had not heard before.  Dogstar was billed in SL Events at “The Storyteller” which drew me right away.  In the air breathing world you will hear it said that the art of storytelling is dying, and I doubt you will find places outside of children’s sections of libraries and some upper crust bookstores where literature (stories in perpetua) are read aloud to an audience.  Dogstar was performing to a standing-room-only crowd of nearly twenty avatars: adult human, kid avis, furries.  His vocal presentation was strong and dynamic.  He used affects discretely to enhance his story: when he told of gruel overflowing a pot it did so, spilling in amongst the audience; when he told a story involving goblins and a puppy which had a repeating sequence as many traditional tales do, illustrated images appeared to support the action.  As I looked around I wondered, where all these people had come from?  I thought of them sitting in homes at or near computer screens, with headsets or speakers on.  I wondered what had brought them to this?
