Paradise Of Fun Zoo- Stacey Cardalines reporting...

Most people never see exotic wild animals in person. I live pretty far in the country, and my animal sighting list goes pretty much dog, cat, raccoon, squirrel, mouse, skunk, turkey, various birds, and fish... nothing that the Discovery Channel is going to send a film crew out to document. I've seen sharks and whales, but I live at a beach and those are not unusual things there.

What would be unusual is for me to stroll around suburban Massachusetts and run into a Rhino. Rhinos, who are much feared in Africa, are bad things to run into. They are very aggressive and territorial, and would most likely kill me rather than tolerate me moving through his realm. It would care very little if I told it, "No no, you have the wrong country, doctors in America don't think that your powdered horn cures impotence." I don't even think it would eat me, just kill me, mostly to let me know how things get done in Rhino Town.

I'd rather not be smashed into pudding by a livid horned monster who weighs 3400 pounds. My car, which would end your life if I drove it over you, weighs 2300 pounds.

So, a rhino isn't what I want to see walking around suburban Massachusetts. To spare you from other tales of animal violence, I am also not disappointed by the lack of lions, cobras, leopards, cheetahs, hippopotami (?), komodo dragons, alligators, polar bears, wolverines, anacondas, chupacabra, and Godzillas living in the moors behind my house. Giraffes don't have a reputation for violence, but I'd still rather not have one walking around by my rhododendrons. Africa, Japan, Indonesia... you can keep that stuff, guys.

That doesn't mean that, in a controlled environment, I wouldn't enjoy looking at a rhino. It's an amazing, even beautiful creature. I'd pay good money to go somewhere safe and stare at rhinos and lions and other things I don't see in American suburbia. That's why people make zoos.

SL, which reflects real life even when the tigers walk on two legs and talk, is naturally going to have a Zoo go up somewhere at some point. I found one while playing in water parks. You'll get a water park article later when the photographer and I return and I am wearing a more flattering swimsuit. But we did find a zoo.

Paradise Of Fun is a sprawling entertainment complex. It features a water park, a zoo, a mall, and a food court. I went through all of them, but... c'mon guy, there's a Zoo!

It's not a long walk, but it's full of cool animals! Sorry about the exclamation point, but everyone is a kid when they go to the zoo. Unless the adult likes to go on safari a lot, an adult and a toddler have about the same amount of in-person elephant watching time. They're both children, in that sense. I shall therefore conduct myself as one, which my boss here at the SL Enquirer will tell you isn't actually all that unusual. There are very few fully self-actualized adults in the field of sportswriting, and when you throw in the virtual world part... you're lucky that I can even write at all.

POF Zoo is a large circular area where you can move from exhibit to exhibit. You first run into some flamingos, and they are across from the elephants. They have three elephants in a cage that looks about the size of the one that they have UFC fights in, but it is tough to be cruel to virtual animals. You can't jump into the cage with them, even if you are a well-trained cheerleader with pretty impressive hang time for a white chick.

Never fear, because the next exhibit is the Lion and Tiger one. This one has a very short fence, but if you hop over it for a selfie, you sort of hover above the animals. Do note from my picture in the article of this exhibit that at least one mother had no problem at all bringing an infant to a lion den with only a 3-foot fence (which a journalist was able to hop over) between her and both the Ghost and the Darkness. She lived, by the way... I saw her at the Food Court later.

If you survive the Tiger exhibit, your next stop involves tropical birds. Unfortunately, the one that looked like Toucan Sam had no breakfast cereal to offer, so f*ck him and his exhibit.

Across the lane, we have giraffes. Three giraffes also occupy a Hell In The Cell-sized pen similar to the one housing the elephants. You'll notice that the giraffes were the only creatures who we didn't have to zoom the camera into their cage to get a good picture of them, one of the few benefits of being taller than your cage.

There's a river after the giraffe exhibit. As a true investigative journalist, I dove into the river to see if it had sharks or whales or Nemos in it and was an exhibit in itself. No such luck.

My next stop was Zebras and the previously mentioned Rhino. They were in cages, there's no way to jump in, I tried. I have a Slap animation I was going to try out on the rhino, but the zoo designers were one step ahead of me. I'd recommend not putting a striped animal like a zebra behind bars, which in a two dimensional game appear as big stripes. I could barely see the fellow.

They had a gross exhibit with spiders and snakes, but I only hung around long enough for one picture. I don't like spiders and snakes, even virtual ones.

Monkeys were next, I got a pretty good shot of one through the bars. He was funky like a monkey. You really can look at him in his cage and understand why the monkeys hate humans so much in those Planet Of The Apes movies. There were antelopes after that, they were boring, and that was all she wrote for the Zoo.

We'll be back for the rest of the park later, but for now... life's a Zoo.

Saturday 17th July at noon SLT: GeekSpeak – Climate Change!

Last week there were extreme temperatures in Canada, the USA, and above the Arctic Circle.  There were stories of towns suddenly burning down and unprecedented loss of ice at the poles.  Are we now in ‘the worst-case scenario’ predicted by the IPCC?

What needs to be done?  What will our future be if we cut down on carbon emissions?  And what will it be if we don’t?

Will we see cities with all the streets covered to give some shade?  Or will we all live underground?  Or high up in the mountains?

Can we expect mass migrations, severe flooding in some areas , and severe droughts in others?  Is there any escape? Can the future be bright if we act now?

Come and discuss your future and your children’s future.  Bring all your kids.

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class at 1pm every Wednesday in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

July 18th - Icecremn Merlin and Tukso LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, July 18th beginning at 3pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is Icecremn Merlin, who returned to the SL music scene with new equipment, new sound, and some great covers you will love including Jackson Browne, Johnny Cash and Bruce Springsteen,  It's rock and roll live from his studio in Folsom CA. He also works in South Lake Tahoe as a live engineer, on a contract basis, for many headliners such as Sammy Hagar, Kenny Loggins, Dave Mason, Cheap Trick, and many others.

Ice’s father was in a band, so music was a big influence in his life. Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys....Willie Nelson....Hank Snow and Hank Williams.  His cousin currently plays lead guitar for George Strait. The first time he performed live was at age 18 playing guitar at a biker bar. He still remembers being afraid if he wasn’t any good he would get beat up. The bikers liked the band and the drummer got them a regular gig. Asked if that was his first band, he remembered being the keyboard player in a band at age 14. He admits that he was not very good at it though he does play a little to this day.

Icecremn’s SL name was inspired by a song called "Icecream man" originally by John Brim. He really enjoyed the version rendered by Van Halen. His real-life band played a version of it at their shows. He said fondly that one of his bandmates, "smokes the lead lines" on his electric guitar. He calls it a "rockin" version. Pretty sweet, right?

A quick look at Ice's song list reveals his versatile range. His favorite covers are from Jackson Browne.  He sings Bad moon rising by Credence Clear Water Revival, Garden of Eden by Beaver Brown, Need you now by Lady Antebellum, even Margaretville by Jimmy Buffett. As you can see, he has a mix of upbeat, toe-tapping songs and slow, heartfelt ballads. His voice has a good timbre to it. This writer thinks that he sings ballads the best, especially country songs. His rendition of Lady Antebellum's  Need You Now was just brilliant; he made it his own, it was unique and just as tender as the original version.

Also debuting at Terry's this week, coming up at 4pm SLT Terry's Sunday Showcase continues with a LIVE performance from Tukso, a headliner in Second Life (14 years performance experience), and a performer with vast NYC stage experience (CBGB's, Kenny's Castaways, Knitting Factory, Red Lion, China Club, and hundreds more).  Seasoned multi-instrument musician (drums, keyboard, guitar, bass, percussion, harmonica, vocals ~ *ALL PLAYED LIVE as one-man band during concerts). Genres include funk, blues, jazz, soul, psychedelic, rock on original music created on the spot.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

4 Top Makeover Tips You Must Read

If you avoid photographs, dread looking in the mirror, or are unhappy with your style, it might be the perfect time to overhaul your look. While beauty is more than skin deep, your appearance and clothing can affect your self-esteem.

If you want to brim with confidence each time you step outside your front door, you must find ways to transform your image. Get started with these four top makeover tips you must read.

1. Change Your Hairstyle

Are you tired of the same hair color or cut? Embrace a brand-new hairstyle to shake up your look and improve your self-confidence. Talk to a hair stylist about the best hairstyle for your facial shape, hair type, and skin tone, which will ensure you walk out of a salon feeling like a brand-new person.

2. Adopt a New Skincare Regimen

If your skin appears dull and drab, adopt a new skincare regimen to create a glowing, youthful complexion. For example, you can start by cleansing your skin with micellar water to ensure it is soft and clean. Next, apply either a facial oil or moisturizer to lock in hydration and create radiant skin that will make you look much younger than your years. Repeat the above actions at night and then apply a defense eye cream before bed to banish dark circles and slow down the aging process.

3. Ditch Your Glasses or Contact Lenses

If you rely on glasses or contact lenses for good vision, they likely impact your appearance, freedom, and style. If you want to develop a new look that will wow your loved ones, it’s time to ditch your glasses and contact lenses for good. To do so, you can book a laser eye surgery Melbourne appointment to restore your vision. It will transform your look, boost your self-confidence, and help you see clearly each day.

4. Overhaul Your Closet

Pull out every item of clothing in your closet and decide the pieces you would like to keep, sell, or donate to a charitable organization. If an outfit doesn’t make you exude confidence, replace it with items that will make you feel stylish.

Incorporate various staple pieces into your closet to mix and match your clothing, which can help you appear fashionable every day of the week. For instance, you should add:

  • A leather jacket

  • Plain white T-shirt

  • Little black dress

  • Straight leg jeans

  • A blazer

  • A midi dress

  • Sneakers

  • Button-up shirt

  • Ballet flats

Also, invest in different jewelry pieces to shake up your style, such as statement necklaces, chunky scarves, hats, and bracelets. It will keep your look fresh and interesting, and the new items can boost your confidence when at work, shopping, or socializing.

A lack of confidence can hold you back in life, as it can stop you from meeting new people or following your dreams. If you often feel self-conscious or want to transform your image, the above makeover tips can improve your look and self-esteem.

Romantic Destinations in Secondlife: Xerei Savantes goes on a tour for romance!

Today we are going to talk about romance. It’s something we all want. It’s something that on some level we all crave. We want someone to woo us. To take us someplace special that tells us on some level that we are connected in numerous ways. But it leaves the question, What is romantic? Is it a walk through a garden? Is it a walk on the beach during the sunset? Or perhaps a picnic in the graveyard? With as many people as there are in second life, everyone has their idea of what is romantic. With this in mind, I shall take you on a tour of the places I found. Join me on my tour and let's get our romance on. For all of our stops I recommend you use your shared Lighting Environment to get the best experiences possible.

The first stop on my tour is Aphrottos Garden. If you want to take a walk through a forest that has numerous nooks and crannies to explore then Aphrottos is a place you want to go. As you walk through the main forest you will see that great care and love was placed into the creation of the sim as everything is in its place and has plenty of little spaces to go if you want to see out of sight for some cuddles. Alongside the main forest, there is also a beautifully done cliff and rocky coastline that just adds a special little something to the edge of the forest and the ruins atop the cliffs just add to the ambiance. And if after your walk through the forest and cliffs you want a little music you can head to Club 7 for an assortment of tunes and relax on the dance floor.

The next stop on my tour is Waterfall of Dreams. If fantasy is your thing then Waterfall of Dreams should be a must on your list of places to take your special someone. With a dazzling forest and numerous waterfalls, it is easily one of the more romantic spots. When you enter right at the bridge you and your partner can take a horseback ride through the forest to explore it. The music is relaxing and with numerous balconies and swings, there is no shortage of places to grab your partner and snuggle up and enjoy any of the numerous gorgeous views that Waterfall of Dreams has to offer. If you want to dance some time away you can head up to the terraces for a spectacular view while you and your partner dance the time away.

Beaches! It’s something we all love on one level or another and for some, it is the ultimate romantic destination. The next stop on our journey is Wintermoon. Wintermoon is set up like a little archipelago and just as stunning as our other stops. It is a beautiful place to walk around with your partner and all the islands mostly have their little spots to sit down and cuddle under an umbrella and just watch the waves crash upon the shore. Do you want something a little more remote to enjoy then head out into the water and enjoy the coolness of it as you head out to one of the gazebos that are set out away from the land and enjoy the solitude, I promise it’s well worth it.

Forests, not your thing? Don’t find beaches overly romantic? Perhaps something wackier is up to your or your partner’s alley or maybe just want something different. Well then let me introduce you to the land of Astral Dreams. This wonderful gem made a spot in my tour to provide someone with a romantic setting but also some very unusual scenery. From the moment you enter the fun and wacky scenery takes you right in as one of the first things you can see is a train crashing into the ocean on its track. Once you start looking around you’ll feel like you are in a wonderland. Using the teleporter will take you to the club that is there and also another area up in the sky all filled with the same wonderment as when you first arrived. Take your time and enjoy the fun and oddness of this wonderful land.

For those of you that find the dark and morbid romantic, I have something for you as well. The last stop on our tour, Arranmore. From the moment you arrive, you find yourself in a beautifully done dark atmosphere. From what you see to what you hear you are fully immersed into the feel of it all. Once you leave the station landing you can head up to the manor or explore along the coast. While walking make sure to hold your partner’s hand as I’m sure you wouldn’t want to be separated while here. The lighthouse has the best view one could ask for to look out over the wonderful place to see all of it at once and well….if you decide it’s time to move on with your life, the water at the base is deep and I’m sure a body wouldn’t be found. Just make sure your partner has life insurance first.

LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR THE CROWN TO VALSNIA!

Valsnia, from India, won the prestigious LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR title and the nice sum of L $ 50,000 in cash that came with it!

Also shining in her wake were Becky Kenaan, 1st runner up, and RoyaleSun, 2nd runner up.

PHOTOS: Monica Querrien

The grand final of the competition took place on Sunday. In a grandiose production by One On One Agency, the twelve finalists walked on the theme '' A Ball to Save the Planet '', presenting what they considered to be the ideal LUXE Paris outfit to participate in such an event, in tribute to Greenpeace and its benefactors Elton John and Stella McCartney.

Valsnia, Becky Kenaan, RoyaleSun, Annough Lykin, EleanorJean, Hunipet Delicioso, Imogen Spark, Jude Tatham, Ksenia Jovinavic, Laycie Pearl, Nonoya, and TaraAers all brilliantly rose to the challenge, competing in imagination and elegance.

THE SUN GODDESS

Valsnia, however, stood out with a look inspired by her country's sun goddess, Sakthi. Wearing the LUXE Paris Emeraude ball gown and adorned with Zuri jewels, she also enhanced the ensemble with a headpiece in the shape of the sun.

"In India, only 56% of the total population has access to electricity," Valsnia told judges and the public.

''It breaks my heart to think about that. Why I get to keep this privilege and another girl cannot. Why do I get to read my books with controlled temperature and light at my fingertips when another child has to walk miles and miles to access a streetlight for his education?

''The only way to move forward and make sure energy is available to all is by tapping into a resource that is universal, nondiscriminatory. I chose to dress as the Indian Sun Goddess, Sakthi, to insist that we move towards solar energy and achieve one of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations.''

Becky, for her part, chose to wear a gown from the LUXE Paris Brewin collection, made from the artwork of the RL Canadian painter Dave Brewin. ''Entitled New Beginnings Through Change, the artwork which infuses this dress exemplifies nature's wonderful biophilic beauty and the delicate eco-diversity of our planet'', highlighted Becky.

Also wearing a LUXE Paris Brewin dress, the Above, Royale honored our oceans and the marine life in her styling. ''The scales tattoo represents the many varieties of fish found within our oceans'', explained Royale.  ''Without them, the many nations who depend on our oceans for food would perish or have their lives forever changed.''

A VERY MOVING FINALE

Carrying an important message for the future of humanity, the final show of the competition '' A Ball to Save the Planet '' was also very moving. Avalon Chrome, LOOK of the YEAR 2020, delivered a farewell speech filled with passion and with a voice sometimes broken by emotion, sad to lay down her crown but very proud to continue her collaboration with LUXE Paris, now as a designer.

Valsnia was also deeply moved by her victory, reporting that her fingers quivered on the keyboard as she addressed the judges and the audience via public chat.

''Wow! I can't believe it'', she exclaimed as the crowd cheered her on.

''I feel like I am dreaming. Never the moment I entered this contest, or during the process of this amazing journey, I thought to myself that I would be LUXE Paris Look of the Year!

''I mean, look at these amazing ladies! There is no one who is less than the other.

''But today, standing here, I feel as if I have achieved one of the best things I ever wanted from SL. Being part of a movement! The feeling of completeness fills me because LUXE Paris is more than a brand.

''I will do everything in my power to fill the big shoes Avalon Chrome is leaving.''

THE SHOW AVAILABLE ON YOUTUBE

Valsnia, Becky, and Royale were elected among twelve finalists, themselves selected among 340 submissions.

The finalists were evaluated by a jury composed of 12 personalities from the fashion industry and the media world: Parisian Skytower and Mika Palmyra, LUXE Paris owners-designers, Frolic Mills, founder of BOSL and Miss Virtual World, Ponchituti Boucher, co-owner of One On One Modeling Agency, Avalon Chrome, LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR 2020, Naar Rexen, owner of In-Nova Modeling Academy, Adonis Lubomir, owner of Swank Event, Ahn Amore, owner of the Womenstuff group, Nany Jurado, owner-designer of Bon Amour Hair, Chemak Kamala, owner-editor SL Confidencial, Orion Baral, Chief Operator at The SL Enquirer, and Laura, representative of Zuri Jewelry.
