TOMORROW LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR GRAND FINALE!

TOMORROW, Sunday July 11th, we will know who will win the prestigious ''LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR'' title and the exciting L $50,000 cash prize that comes with it!

The twelve finalists will walk the runway for a last challenge on the theme ''A BALL TO SAVE THE PLANET''. The Big Twelve were asked to dress in LUXE Paris for a fundraising ball for Greenpeace, chaired by the famous fashion designer Stella McCartney and the legendary musician Elton John.

With Stella and Elton at the honor table and tickets at $25,000 US per person, this event was presented to the finalists as very jet set, resolutely stylish, and even a bit aristocratic. We also specified that the fierce desire of green people to save the planet should be omnipresent.

SLE Police Report: SL Karen Strikes back at Terry's Place

 7/9/21- SLE Police Blotter

According to sources close to The SL Enquirer, an avatar by the name of Eliza Ca*ASSoun spends her time crying in IMz and forcing her opinions on others and breaking the only rule at this prestigious venue. "Don't be a D*ck".  Plain and simple.

One innocent bystander reported the smell of Bengay and spoiled milk, another suspected halitosis.  Due to strict HIPAA laws we could not verify or deny these allegations however upon thrusting her emotional disputes upon happy concert-goers she disappeared without a trace.

One guest suggested she got recruited by a German Dungeon porn sim as a greeter and fluffer another said she got muted and banned across the board.

A warrant has been issued for her arrest and charges include chronic BO  with fines exceeding 5,000L.

If you seen or heard from this SL Karen, please keep your distance to avoid becoming Karen'd

July 11th - Amberle Janniah and Oblee LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, July 11th beginning at 12pm noon SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is none other than Amberle Janniah!!  A singer/songwriter/musician from the Philippines, Amberle grew up with several influences that are rooted deep within: her family's deep ties to structured church music combined with her mom's pop/power ballad techniques and her dad's more playful rock/jazz approach to performances.

Amberle knew from early on that music was one of the things that would always make sense, so each and every melody sung from her formative years to the present would impact her song choices that span from the 80's to the present (and a few handpicked original songs thrown in the mix). Intent on initially focusing on acoustic performances, she has added tracks to her arsenal, choosing to lean into a wider array of sounds and styles to convey a wider range of emotions and topics.

With her ever growing enthusiasm for guitar, vocals and deft arrangements, Amberle will give you a deeper sense of a raw, stripped down musical experience.

Up next at 1pm SLT. Terry's Sunday Showcase continues with a LIVE performance from Oblee, a unique, one man, multi-instrumental musical act focused on original live music.  Most songs are centered around the guitar or some beatboxing, and a looper is often used to organize the composition.  There is an improvisational element to the music as well, with a different "remix" of the song coming each time.

Everything that you hear at an Oblee show is performed live, with no pre-recorded elements used.  Unique versions of cover songs are played sometimes, too.  Instruments included in the mix are guitars, the mouth (beatboxing, fake trumpeting, various birdcalls, New Jersey-Style insults), bass guitar, vintage synthesizers, drumkit (real), piano, hammond organ, congas, bongos, djembes and a million little percussion instruments, didgeridoo, and an elk bugle.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

The twelve grand finalists of the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR contest played the stars brilliantly last Saturday, during the first challenge of the competition.

In a grandiose setting and production, signed One On One Agency, the finalists walked the runway in turn to interpret their favorite star, reinventing her wardrobe in the style of LUXE Paris.

COME SEE THE GRAND FINAL SUNDAY!

The scores allocated during the Hollywood challenge will be added to those of next Sunday, when the last challenge, “A Ball To Save The Planet”, and the grand finale of the contest will take place.

This last challenge, SUNDAY, July 11th, 9 AM SLT, will be immediately followed by the crowning of the new LUXE Paris ambassador and this moving event will be open to the public!

Shining light on the Devil's Game: Xerei Savantes talks Dungeons and Dragons in Secondlife.

As kids things have always fascinated us. It doesn't matter what it is but I think the main thing we always loved most as children is an adventure. We'd run around outside and hide from imaginary monsters. A stick off the ground suddenly becoming a magic wand to cast fireballs or a staff of a mighty wizard. Another with a stick and a make-shift shield becoming the fighter. Then we all grow up but even as adults that same small stick suddenly becomes a magic wand again when we think no one is watching, some of us not willing to give up on that need for adventure.

It was a day in 1974 when a man named Gary Gygax and his friend Dave Arneson created the game Dungeons and Dragons. At the time Dungeons and Dragons was created it wasn't very well received in those conservative times but it had found its home though with those of us who wanted to have those adventures still and explore without friends. In 1977 Gary Gygax began work on Advanced Dungeons and Dragons which was a more comprehensive version of the game and published several manuals and modules for players to use and run the adventures of the game. I feel it was with this edition of the game that it got its foothold in society. In the '80s when the times were a lot more conservative and young kids started playing the game it was quickly branded "The Devil's Game" because of what it encompassed. The hype died down over time but new Editions have still been produced and the love of the game is still there and with the introduction into pop culture due to shows like Big Bang Theory and Stranger Things the player base has exploded and brought it back into the mainstream.

With today's technology, it has become a lot easier to find groups to play the game with others. With the advances that have been made and people trying to find ways to play this game that they love, some have found a home in this virtual world of ours. Building places for us players to come and live out our adventures with the characters we create, the vast amount of creators giving players the chance at ultimate character creation, and giving players a chance to truly bring their characters alive.

One might wonder how the rules of the traditional game are translated over to a virtual environment but it seems to be quite simple. Checks and Attacks are still made using dice if a player chooses or a Sim might offer other types of systems for a player to choose from. With all the combat systems available in Secondlife the choices are almost endless for what the Sims can use. Some systems let players eat and drink allowing for even more immersion into their character's world.

The Dungeon Master still has the traditional role to fill as the one who creates the stories and the encounters and hands out the much sought-after loot. And when it comes time to do a dungeon crawl or explore some ancient ruins Secondlife lets the Dungeon Master take it to another level as some Dungeons and Dragons sims have builders that will build the dungeons that are needed, yet again letting players delve into their character's world and physically explore the dungeon. If you find that you enjoy a more traditional feel there are also Sims that run it old school with maps, tokens, and dice.

I explored the sim Faerun-Silver Marches run by Quetzai and fell in love with what I saw. The love of the game shows in what she had built and after a talk with her, it’s clear that she has a very good team of Admins who also have a love for the game, some with decades of experience, that helps everything run smoothly. Having the overworld and then also having the Underdark makes it easy to get immersed into the world and get a feel for everything from the character's perspective.

With the vast variety of races, both humanoid and monster, in Dungeons and Dragons and the vast pool of creators who also have the love of the unusual, with a little bit of leg work in the marketplace and working with the Dungeons Masters, it is almost possible to play anything that comes to a players mind. In terms of playing a game with character customization and the ability to build exactly what you need, I think Secondlife is second to none and it shows what players make with their characters and what the sim owners build for their player base.

From the Depths to the Heights at Sinners & Saints Art Show- STARTING JULY 10th!

In the wake of the UWA Gratitude Art Show back in November which Chuck Clip curated alongside Mariposa Upshaw, we here at Sinful Retreat and Angels Rest decided to carry UWA's torch onward into the future in the form of occasional themed art shows. Sinners & Saints Art Show is our first show which serves the dual purpose of carrying the aforementioned torch and celebrating the culmination of our first year in Second Life.

Sinful Retreat and Angels Rest are mirrors for each other, highlighting the dichotomy of light and dark in art and humanity as a whole. We thought it appropriate that our first show should reflect that. Despite the terminology, you need not think in terms of Christianity. This show represents the width and breadth of the arts in Second Life. With submissions from about 30 artists and poets from across the grid, and performances by 15 musicians and DJs (and counting) this show is sure to encapsulate all of us and serve to start some interesting conversations. We cannot wait to gaze deep into the mirror with you.

Sinners & Saints Art Show opens on July 10th with spiritLed, Semina, and Acoustic Energy at 12pm SLT. Music events will follow throughout the month, and the exhibit itself will stand through September, at which point selected pieces will rotate in and out of circulation on the sims of Sinful Retreat and Angels Rest.

GeekSpeak – Mind control!- Join the discussion July 3rd at 12pm SLT

We all know we are controlled in some way by our respective governments.  They control what we see and hear and how we think about it.  Is there any justification for that?  Should people be controlled for their own good?  Is it necessary to control people in order to rule them?  Who should decide how we should be controlled?

How are people controlled in extreme places like North Korea?  Why is it wrong for them and not wrong for us?  At what point should we put our foot down?  And what should we do when we reach that point?

You are obligated by the party to show up in person today, with all your friends and families!

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class every Wednesday at 1pm in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

Adventures in Education: Dandilyon Jinx Reports on Woodcrest University

While many of the educational institutions sit idle during the summer months, this is not the case at Woodcrest University. A residential and role play sim, the university sits in the middle of a bustling town with active coffee shops, workout gyms, and sports bars. While Woodcrest has no real world accreditations, the education there is authentic.

This reporter had an opportunity to experience this first hand by attending Professor Daragan Cabeza·de·Vaca’s Art & Design class. "Originally from Spain, I emigrated from there when I was a teenager," said Cabeza·de·Vaca. “Fast-forward to today… I'm 23 years old and aside from teaching, I'm a grad student in our MBA program, active in our Greek System, and throw the Javelin for our Angry Beavers Track Team.” Despite having a full plate of activities, the Professor still makes herself available to her students if they need extra help.

The class filled up with students quickly, and after everyone signed in for attendance, the professor began. "Tonight we're continuing on with the genre of Art Nouveau,” she said. She commenced by teaching a full class on the topic, centering on Art Nouveau through Austrian painter, Gustav Klimt. As students, we watched short films, listened as the professor explained the slides, and answered questions.

After an engaging and highly informative lesson, Cabeza·de·Vaca concluded class in her usual way. "Thank you for your time and the desire to experience our world in an expressive, Artistic way. Until next Monday, Stay Safe out there, Practice your Art, and be Extra-kind to one another. Class dismissed."

After experiencing a class at Woodcrest University, I went to have a look around campus. Everywhere were clear signs of school pride. A list of classes included psychology, astronomy, and performing arts. As I explored, I found fully equipped classroom laboratories and music rooms. A library, cafeteria, and student council meeting rooms were all in use. A sports program at the university has a full stadium and gymnasium. The school sports teams include basketball, boxing, football, track and field, swimming, wrestling, and a cheerleading squad.

The students were friendly as well. Pεᴛεя Áηdяεw Pαяᴋεя was happy to give me a brief tour of the campus on his way up to Professor Cabeza·de·Vaca’s class. A typical student, Pαяᴋεя struggles to balance a busy life. “Sadly I don't always make it to classes due to work but the ones I do, I enjoy a lot.” Pαяᴋεя’s name appears on the school honor rolls, so his balancing act is working.

A packed school calendar is a good indication of how involved life at Woodcrest can be, but the overall message seems to be one of kindness and excellence. A Dean’s List and Honor Roll inspire students to excel, but as Dean Steven Lovecraft III says in his welcome, “Woodcrest is a place to find belonging---a place to engage in the dialectic of finding and expressing yourself while building up and not tearing down one another. Welcome to this special place.”

A large and dedicated staff help to make the university a great experience. Teachers must apply to lead classes. While role-playing is part of the experience, real educational content is the focus. That was certainly true of the class I attended.  Attendance is taken by the instructors and sent to the University Coordinator. At the end of each half-semester, Instructors can recommend students for Honors or High Honors.

To complete the student life experience, fraternity and sorority chapters self-govern and maintain houses on Greek Row. The Council of the Woodcrest University Student Union represents both the undergraduate council and the graduate assembly and connects the administration with the students. The council sponsors student clubs and school spirit.

The town of Woodcrest welcomes new residents that would like to be positive and active participants in the culture. Their website describes the town as “a vibrant college town” where local residents and the university's students work side by side. From interning with the police department and emergency services to working in the local businesses, interaction and cooperation is encouraged. The town founders have even established a fund supporting entrepreneurial students to start businesses of their own.

Residents looking for a full university experience with a diverse student body and a focus on academics and positivity need look no farther than Woodcrest University.

Go Beavers!

IS IT STILL POSSIBLE TO GENERATE A REAL-LIFE INCOME FROM SECOND LIFE LINDENS? - VєηυŞ (venus.amore) Reporting...

For years Second Life has been a very good conversation piece when it comes to making money online. The economy in Second Life has its own exchange to USD and allows the Residents to exchange Linden’s (the inworld name for money) or $Ls into real world currency. Linden Lab’s currency was even online before Bitcoin became a viable investment. Many people over the years have made money in this virtual world and many have not. What does it take to make a living out of Second Life? Who has done this? What types of products or services actually make money in Second Life?  Well from my research, continue reading because here is what I found out.

My research in Second Life delved into several areas. The culture is much different than the real-world buyer’s market. People do make an income. The question is, is it a viable income that allows you to quit your real job? That depends on who you are, your abilities, and how driven you are. A lot of my research led me to believe that it is really not all about money. There are some people so passionate about what they do, that money is not what drives them to do it.

It would be great to sit at home and work online. In our current world crisis, this is coming more and more prominent. People work more from home now than at any time in history. The culture is changing and making more possibilities online and in Second Life for lucrative opportunities. There are millions of people in Second Life. Some have become rather well-off due to their abilities and talents.  Sominel Edelman is doing rather well with his surround sim landscaping.

Full-time, supplemental income, or maybe something that can be a passion?  Venue owners, product vendors, and scripters alike have their opinion of what Second Life income is and I’d like to share some of their views in this article. Looking at larger vendors like Catwa, and Maitreya in recent years seem to be very lucrative in the recent changes for mesh. Still striving from the past, Ansche Chunge made international news by becoming the first millionaire to make a profit in Second Life. Stroker Serpentine was not far behind when he and his team brought adult content into Second Life during its first years of existence.

Aside from land and adult items, you have clothing, scripting, and venues that feed the economy in Second Life. Some of my dear friends in Second life have offered up their opinions and expertise on these matters. In the year 2003 Stroker Serpentine and his team brought adult pose balls in-world and in 2006 Fnordian Link started his scripter career, Lestat Reuven started Sissboom and the French Farm.  She brought us some really nice furniture and clothing on the grid and is still striving. In 2007, Sominel Edelman started to develop surrounding landscapes which are all over the grid today with beautiful scenes.

In 2009, cherryblonde (chryblnd.scribe) started Idle Rogue, an entertainment venue with Live Musicians, Djs at first which evolved into one of the premier venues for the unique burlesque shows in Second Life. By 2011 a friend of mine Pixy Snook started designing many types of skins, tattoos, and makeup. Now we use appliers for different layers on the mesh and these items are popular to make each and every avatar unique. Pixy made a lot of money when she created a limited skin edition once but said that she has not been able to recreate that much hype since.

So far Pixy Snook has made supplemental income with Second Life because of her busy Real Life.  Also in 2011, Origen Resident decided to bring parts of Hollywood in-world with his Venues. Hollywood Venues featuring places like the Chinese Theater and Hollywood Bowl were premiere entertainment spots featuring some of the most talented performers in Second Life through live music shows and burlesque.

There are many reasons why people create in Second Life. Venue owners do not make too much money and end up spending a lot of money. You could supplement that by possibly renting out some of your land. But for those who love the arts, it’s a passion. As Origin states “Please don't undersell your value. And here is some great advice from Ted Turner that I always follow: Advertise, Advertise and Advertise. The only thing I would add to that is to advertise in places that you can show will bring you a return on investment. Do not throw your money just anywhere. There is lots of good free advertising on FB in SL groups.” As for products and services that people can buy and use in world, the people I choose in this article have been making money in Second Life since shortly after they landed in the world. They are still making L today. Because of the structure of how money is made in world, the patrons have the ability to exchange it for real-world dollars.

In closing, those I mentioned above have found their calling in Second Life and are very successful. Others have run their SL career course and moved on. Yes, it is still possible to create a lucrative SL career in Second Life, but only if you put in the time and effort to succeed. There you have it. People may have what it takes to make a full-time income in Second Life, and many can make a part-time profit. It’s your Second Life; you decide what you bring into and out of it. I would like to thank all the contributors to this article!
