May 30th - Rico Dee and Angelikus Deo DEBUT LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, May 30th beginning at 5pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is Rico Dee, an experienced singer/songwriter from Southeast Asia who's taking the SL music scene by storm!

Rico started playing guitar at the age of 10. During his high school and college years, he joined competitions such as 'Battle of the Bands'. After graduating from college, Rico decided to take a year-long personal break and focus solely on his music career. He joined a band in 2001 and traveled all over Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, Hong Kong, and China, gaining experience in a variety of genres.

Debuting at Terry's this week, Rico has an ongoing 20 years of musical experience, and loves to convert cover songs into acoustic masterpieces. Be it a show of pure acoustics or backing tracks covering everything from Jazz, Classics, standards, retro, pop, rock, alternative reggae, and originals, Rico always keeps you wanting to hear more.

Following Rico at 6pm SLT. Terry's Sunday Showcase continues with another fabulous debut performance from the lovely Angelikus Deo, a professional singer, seasoned acoustic player, and an award-winning songwriter from the southern Philippines has graced the local music scene since 2011 performing alternative classics in a new sound. With her bag of alt goodies, she is now making waves in the Second Life music scene as she expands her horizons.

Angelikus has been singing since she was 8 years old, taught by her mother first who was a folk singer/guitarist in the city. Her lessons were cut short when her mother went back to work so most of her vocal techniques were self-taught. By 12 years old, she heard rock music for the first time and that changed her music taste since then. She started playing the acoustic guitar when she was 14 mostly playing for friends. She got discovered by film scorer/indie legend of the city Popong Landero when she was 26 which launched her music career with a few bands in the local mainstream music scene. She also took part in a few music-writing competitions which always put her on the finals list every time (Tunog Mindanaw 2012, Tunog Mindanaw 2015, and Red Horse Muziklaban 2016). She took a break when she was 32 to focus on her personal life. Two years later, she got invited to the local underground music scene and there she flourished as a bass player for an all-female metal band and also as a vocalist for another alternative band.

Now with the CoVid19 pandemic, Angelikus is expanding her talents in Second Life. She may be new, but she's a fast learner of the game and her music experience in real life did not hinder her from doing what she loves the most.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole a lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

GeekSpeak - UFOs! Are they real?- Join the discussion on May 29th at 12pm SLT

Last month the Pentagon officially said that UFOs are real. That is, people have seen things that exist and that cannot be explained. Congress has set up a task force to study UFOs and they will bring out a report next month. So this is a good time for us to ask a few questions and suggest some answers. UFOs are now called UAPs (unidentified aerial phenomena), and they could be anything or rather anything that can travel at 13000 miles an hour and can change direction while moving at that speed. There are hundreds of eyewitnesses who can help the task force to find out what the hell is going on. What do you think? Have you ever seen a UAP? Are they alien ships? Or alien robots? If so, why are the aliens not talking to us? Or are they some unknown natural phenomenon? If so, what?

Come and join us, and bring your alien friends! IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class at 1pm every Wednesday in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

SLE Police Report: Linden Scammers hits multiple groups- Be on the look out for Cintia

SLE POLICE REPORT:

On 5/27/21 a one-day-old avatar by the name of Cintia has been joining random groups and sending out a group conference to members asking for lindens.

With thousands of lindens being donated daily in Second life for good causes like Relay for Life ad other well known and legit organizations, hosts make sure the Lindens accumulated go to the cause giving donators a sense of contributing to the greater good of humanity. However,  residents had enough of the freeloaders of Second Life trying to get by on other avatars hard earn lindens. With an abundance of sex work available on the seedy side of town, some beggars don't want to get on their knees and backs for an honest SLiving.

Fortunately for the SLE, we witnessed the jobless vagabond first hand and would like to lend a hand. If anybody is looking for a cheap employee to give a chance to, Cintia is willing to work for 30L. Contact Cintia ad make them work for it.

[17:35] Cintia (cintiatuga): good night, could someone help me with 30 lindens?

2021 Memorial Day Weekend, The Outsiders Dance Troupe, and Paul Woodrunner!- Venus Amore Reporting...

Pictured here is one of the acts the troupe did in a past show.

The Outsiders Dance Troupe in Action

“It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived.” - Patton

This coming weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and there will be many events. Be sure to stop by Copperhead Road, for a plethora of exhibits in memory of those heroes we honor. Paul Woodrunner’s exhibits are created from the heart; something you want to visit. On Memorial Day, The Outsiders Dance Troupe’s will be performing at their home theater “The Bob Hope Theater” at 6 pm SLT at:

http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Copperhead%20Road/64/124/1528

The Exhibits, some replicated from the real world reside along with The Bob Hope Theater on Copperhead Road. Come view the 9/11 Ground Zero Memorial Fountain, Flight 93 National Memorial along with the astounding Tower of Voices and the Wall of Names. Each of these exhibits has been created in Second Life by Paul Woodrunner and his plan to bring the residents of Second Life together to celebrate the lives of our heroes.

The Outsiders Dance Troupe was established in 2017 by Paul Woodrunner. It combines his passion for honoring veterans, first responders, and ordinary day heroes, with his Second Life knowledge and experience from his extensive work with Tribute Bands, Dance venues, and his ability to replicate Real World Builds and (New York’s The Empire Room, Manhattan’s Radio City and The Apollo in Harlem) bring them to life in Second Life. His undying devotion to honor heroes shows through his creations.

Today and every day we honor our veterans, active duty, first responders, and those individuals who protect the free world. “HEROES” are people who risk their lives daily to protect our world and make it a better place. It is an honor to be supported by choreographers in Second Life of such caliber. The Outsiders Dance Troupe members joined forces with Paul Woodrunner, sharing his passion and dreams about honoring those who fought for freedom. They contribute their valuable time and talent through choreographing dances. They too have heroes either in their own families, or friends who have risked or lost their lives to keep our freedom. Before the actual troupe started, Paul experienced firsthand how Second Life Residents, both veterans in real life, many active role-players depicting veterans and active-duty members in-world, loved being entertained. This event consisted of only three acts in a region called Indochina (Vietnam).  The eight-sim region enjoyed the show, and the experience is projected to remind us to uplift our heroes that Second Life Aviation Magazine featured an article contributed by Luke Flywalker about it. The show started with a Ronald Reagan speech and ended with a 21 Gun Salute to honor one of Paul Woodrunner’s friends, a fellow member of the armed forces Marine branch who died in real life. After this event, The Outsiders Troupe started entertaining on several veteran-type holidays per year with honoring our heroes in mind. They dance in the Bob Hope Theater, to remember Bob Hope’s dedication to entertaining heroes worldwide. They were inspired by Bob Hope and his “Bob Hope USO Shows”.

The founder of Paul Woodrunner Productions served in the United States Air Force and attained the rank of Buck Sergeant and NCO. His MO was 46250 Weapons Mechanic and he had the job of loading munitions such as bombs, flares, rockets, and missiles on Fighter Aircrafts (A-7s and F-4s). He was a member of the acclaimed Flying Tigers, a group that was independent outside of the military force and recruited by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941. This elite group flew missions in China against the Japanese in World War II.  He also served in Nato when he was stationed in West Germany. Paul fought in the Cold War and helped defeat Communism. Paul’s passion for honoring veterans has spilled over to Second Life and made a big impact on the Residents over the years.

Interview with Paul Woodrunner and Venus Amore

Venus Amore (VA): What inspired you to start the Outsider's troupe?

Paul Woodrunner (PW): Ever since I have been into Entertainment in SL. I've had a desire to entertain the troops and veterans. I grew up during the Vietnam War and though it all one man rang true to me; Bob Hope, as a young boy I went to a Bob Hope show, it was the grand opening of the Superdome in New Orleans. Second Life gave me, after a lot of hard work, the opportunity to lead my own troupe, and eventually, the Outsiders was born.

VA: When did you first build a memorial to honor those lives that were lost serving our country.

PW: On the Empire Room platform there is a memorial I built maybe 10 years ago that has an eternal flame and I've kept it burning from the day it was built

VA: How many holidays do you do Shows for and what is the purpose behind these shows?

PW: We do the big ones: Vietnam War, Veteran’s Day, July 4th, Memorial Day, 9/11, and a few more. Usually, it works out that every other month there is a show.

VA: When you first started your adventure in Second Life, what caught your interest the most?

PW: Tribute bands, replicated buildings, creating entertainment venues.

VA: What does the future look like for the Outsiders and Paul Woodrunner Productions?

PW: I see the Outsiders continuing to honor our military, first responders, and all people who help people. We might all be Heroes and today or in the past help your neighbor, a passerby, or be that someone who saw smoke and ran towards it. WE THE PEOPLE are the FIRST RESPONDERS, and the Outsiders will continue to push that. I see great things in store for the Outsiders and Bob Hope theater. Stay tuned it will continue to be a wonderful ride.

VA: Is there anything else you would like to tell the readers?

PW: We are in such a place in our history, not only in the US but the whole world. I just feel due to the recent events people seem to be more connected to each other. Heroes who participated in wars, still fight to maintain our freedom every day.  Every time we have a chance to elevate our heroes, we should. We should not mourn their deaths or our loss but be grateful and proud that such people (Heroes) lived to give us our freedom.

It was a great honor to interview Paul. He has great plans and ideas. He has worked on his goals and succeeded. He is a man with a plan; someone to admire and aspire to be like. His compassion and hard work show through in his creations in Second Life and are very contagious. So, in closing, do not forget this weekend and make sure you visit the exhibits and make it to the show!

“Be not your brother’s keeper, be your brother’s brother.”

RelayStock & Bid The Lindens Bald Raise L$2 Million

Combined Events Raised More Than L$2,000,000 For Relay For Life

The 2021 RelayStock event concluded Wednesday, May 19, with the 5th Annual Bid The Lindens Bald Day.  RelayStock, hosted by the Relay Rockers team, supports the Relay For Life of Second Life and the American Cancer Society.

Since it began in 2014, RelayStock is a gathering of RFL of SL teams for 3 days of music and camaraderie set in a 1960s style festival region reminiscent of Woodstock.  Nearly 40 teams assembled across a landscape dotted with tie-dyed tents and old VW campers, raising their banners and flags, and placing their RFL Kiosks and Vendors around their sites. The Main Stage hosts musical acts sponsored by each team as part of their fundraising efforts.  DJs were joined by live performers such as Max Kleene, Keeba Tammas and The Tiny Maniacs and Todd Rumsford, and was the scene of the final round for the Celebrate Remember Fight Back (CRFB) Top DJ Fundraising Competition. The weekend set a record for combined fundraising with a total of L$1,290,669 raised for RFL, while several teams reached new Fundraising Club levels and met their season goals.

The CRFB Top DJ Competition saw DJ Stormy Dench, of the SHB Gems team,  take home the first place trophy by raising L$502,000 during her 90 minute set. Coming in second was DJ Baggie who raised more than L$400,000 during the competition.

Running in conjunction with RelayStock, the 5th Annual Bid The Lindens Bald team challenge concluded the event, with 6 Teams of Lindens and Moles competing to see who would raise the most donations for the American Cancer Society and earn the honor of shaving the head of the last place team. More than 40 Lindens and Moles participated.  The voting heated up as the 1:45 deadline approached.  More than 100 residents were entertained by MrMikie String as they donated to the various kiosks, amid promises (Vote for us for a year without Lag) and playful threats (Bald Moles Make Sink Holes). Voters could either purchase a limited edition animesh Linden Bear or donate directly to a kiosk for each team. In the end the team made up of Darcy, Grumpity, Kristin, Patch, Spots, Vix Linden prevailed with a total of L$296,336 raised and had the honor of shaving the heads of the team consisting of Dakota, Evie, Kreide, Obi, Simon, Vanessa Linden. The losing team will appear in SL without hair until the SL18B celebration in June. All together the event raised L$ 840,369, including the sale of 309 Linden Bears.

“We really appreciate the Relay Rockers team for putting in so much work on this and inviting us to participate. The event was a great success, lots of fun, and we're already looking forward to next year!" said Patch Linden, VP of Product Operations, Linden Lab. RelayStock was organized by Arizona Ballinger of the RelayRockers. Bid The Lindens Bald was coordinated by Trader Whiplash for the Rockers and Derrick Linden on behalf of Linden Lab.

The 2021 Relay For Life season in Second Life concludes on June 12 & 13th with the annual 24 hour walk. Current fundraising totals stand at $350,000, once again placing the virtual Relay among the largest Relay events in the world.

GeekSpeak subject for Saturday 22nd May at noon SLT – Have we lost knowledge over the years?

There are so many cities and civilizations that have been lost, to the sea or the jungle.  And so many hints of ancient knowledge, like the pyramids of Giza or the Antikythera mechanism.

Did our ancestors have technology that we have lost?  Or maybe natural abilities that we have lost?

Was there a super civilization in the past that has been forgotten?  Was it destroyed in one cataclysmic event?  Or is the story of Atlantis just a story, with no basis in reality?

Come and tell us what you think.  Bring any mummies, dead or alive!

Virgil's natural baritone voice will have you singing along to your favorite songs from artists like Santana, David Bowie, INXS, REM, Dwight Yoakam, The Cars, Tom Petty, Prince and many more!

Virgil can play an all acoustic or all electric set with vocals, or any combination in between.
He plays guitar live and his vocals are live.  Any tracks used are his own recordings.

Coming up at 3pm SLT. Terry's Sunday Showcase continues with another debut performance from the lovely Rogue Galaxy, a musician and live singer born and raised in Newfoundland Canada, now residing in upstate New York, in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains!

Rogue has been singing professionally for over 2 decades with her own band in RL and also with other bands too. She has a duo, trio, & a full band that plays a wide variety of music from blues and jazz to easy listening, folk, and Americana!

Rogue vocals are described as sultry, bluesy and  smokey. She will accompany herself with her Ukulele for a one hour acoustic show and/or also uses backing tracks! Her distinct voice and musical style will charm the hearts of all.

Nominated for Sammy's NY People Choice award 2020, Rogue is a must hear performer!
