"We will not be Mourning the loss of Heroes but celebrating that they lived."

This year the Memorial Day Weekend Tribute will be on Monday, May 31st, 2021 at 6pm SLT, "The Outsiders Memorial Day Tribute Show" will be performed by The Outsiders Dance Troupe with various acts created by individual choreographers in remembrance of all the brave soldiers who fought and sacrificed their lives for our FREEDOM. Their HONOR and DEDICATION to FREEDOM and the American Way is presented through Dance, Music, Choreography and setting the ambiance.

The Outsiders Dance Troupe, formerly known as Fortunate Sons, originated in May of 2017. After two years on the road as a traveling troupe they and their famous Bob Hope Theater finally returned home to Copperhead Road permanently. The Theater itself was created in 2019 by Paul Woodrunner, as a dedication and tribute to the late Bob Hope who devoted his time, kindness, and goodwill to entertain troops around the world. Every year, The Outsiders perform numerous dance events dedicated to our veterans, first responders, and heroes, who risk their lives for our freedom.

Maximum Impact Charity Event: Stacey Cardalines Reporting

UPDATED POSTER-5-19-21

In this era of Covid-19, it is easy to forget that lots of things kill lots of people. Not all of them are the Rona. A million people a year across the world die of Malaria. That's double what the Rona did in America in a year. 67% of malaria deaths involve children under the age of 5. You should already be reaching for your wallet, folks.

Of course, why just write a check when you can instead write a check after watching supermodels fight for 2-4 hours? Money is awful hard to get these days, and one should expect a little bang for their buck.

Dylan Thomas once advised us to "rage, rage against the dying of the light." With that in mind, allow me to remind you that the Friday Morning Fight show ("Fight show" is one word, in this case, editor) is hosting a Maximum Impact Charity Event, with the proceeds being donated to the Malaria cause through the GiveWell charity apparatus. The Fight show is a professional wrestling event. If punching a girl in the face isn't Rage enough for you... well, to be quite frank, you might be a little too Hardcore for me.

This event is packed with action. This columnist has fought Sue Plex before, and Friday's audience is in for a show when she steps into the ring. Sue, who hails from the blood-soaked slums of Colorado, is widely feared throughout SL for her sadism. Vendetta is also on the card, and there are rumors around SL that she may have killed several girls in underground fights. The only distinction she makes between "Opponent" and "Innocent People In The Crowd" is that she doesn't get a paycheck when she attacks people in the crowd. They even have a fighter who looks like an anthropomorphic fox.

If you need more prompting than that, it's on you, not me. The show is Friday, May 21st, 10 AM SLT. In these dark times of plague, fight back against us by joining us for some Apocalyptic Asskicking!

FLEET WEEK 2021 - SL Military Groups Open Days; May 18 - May 23 2021

FLEET WEEK 2021 SL Military Groups Open Days - BETWEEN 18 THROUGH 23 MAY 2021

* SL's most active military groups, the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard join hands and open our bases to YOU for a Week!

* Visit realistically designed military facilities, interact with our crews!!

* Experience firsthand how we train, work, fight, and simulate military life in SL!!!

* Participate in exciting contests and military exercises together with military personnel and win prizes from our sponsors!!!!

WHAT IS FLEET WEEK?

In real life, "Fleet Week" is a United States Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard tradition that gives sailors and marines deployed overseas a week-long respite; giving them a chance to dock in major cities for some much-needed rest and relaxation. Today, modern Fleet Week represents a week-long celebration of our armed forces, taking place in cities like San Francisco on the West Coast and New York City on the East Coast, filled with parades and demonstrations.

In SL, Fleet Week 2021 seeks to honor this tradition by bringing long-standing military roleplay groups together in collaboration, to share our groups with Second Life residents throughout the grid.

SPOTLIGHT ON SIMPLY CHIC BOUTIQUE- Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

Simply Chic Boutique is a shop that sells a variety of merchandise from women’s fashion, jewelry, children’s items, home decor, artwork, and more. Situated in a small Paris town with charming little shops and places to grab a coffee or have a romantic dinner date followed by a hot air balloon ride or some ice cream. Owners, Patrick Pearson and Addi Ohare always have fun ideas and new additions in mind for guests. SLE met up with Patrick and Addi to learn more about them and what’s to come for Simply Chic Boutique.

Interview with Patrick & Addi

SLE: It’s a pleasure to meet you both, where are you from and how did you discover Second Life?

Patrick: It's a pleasure meeting you as well. Addi and I met in another virtual world around 2009. She told me about Second Life about 8 years ago and we then decided to move to Second Life as we enjoyed our time here.

SLE: Everyone has a unique story about what brought them to Second Life. We are glad you came here, we love meeting new people and checking out their talents.  What inspired Simply Chic Boutique?

Patrick: Addi has always been passionate about clothing and design and loves to try her hand on everything available within reason given our daily RL world schedules and whatnot. When she wanted to look into this together in Second Life, I was 100% behind her to give anything I can and we settled on a name that is simple yet classy and fun, and Simply Chic Boutique was born.

Addi: I started creating clothes in the other virtual world we were in, so I wanted to give it a try in SL too.  It was easy to learn and I enjoy being creative with the patterns and textures in Photoshop. I also love decorating in SL, so there may be more additions down the road.

SLE: Being supportive of each other is very important in both RL and SL. You two seem to work well together. There are many shops in Second Life. What type of merchandise do you sell?

Patrick: Simply Chic Boutique has a variety of items to give a wider range of selection for everyone...clothing, home decor, gift items, artwork, musical items...Simply Chic Boutique gives a little bit of everything.  We also have a Simply Chic Boutique group and a unique gift for members. Customers can also subscribe to be notified of sales and special events.

SLE: You have a new location grand opening coming up on June 13th, 2021 that resembles a little Paris town, can you tell our readers about it?

Patrick: We both dream of Paris and would love to visit Paris someday. But for now, any elements that trigger the imagination in our hearts to cascade down to the homestead we have and give a little character and charm. From offering a small jazz club to enjoying an intimate dining area to simply take in the overall affair with some fun for everyone as well as children, and we'd like to share that same sentiment with you by coming to experience our venue on June 13th.  We’ll have store discounts, some prizes from our stores and offer a raffle as well. We'll be DJing at the event too, playing a variety of music if anyone feels like dancing and having fun.

SLE: Aside from all the shops and activities for couples to do you will also be hosting small weddings. What type of amenities will you offer and how can couples book their wedding?

Patrick:  We have an area where we can do quaint weddings. We have several wedding elements that we have obtained over the years that feature a cute chapel to an outdoor event to help tailor to the bride and groom’s needs.

Addi: Contact patrickp29 resident or addi.ohare in-world for wedding information and a tour (it is put out for the occasion only).  We offer a fully outdoor wedding setup for a small wedding or a chapel wedding and a casual or elegant reception area (limited # of guests due to our land limits). We can also offer DJ services and we have experience as an officiant as well, if needed. Custom personalized signs and invitations are also included in the wedding package.

SLE: That’s great information for couples looking to get married. Do you also have a club for hosting events? If so, do you have a calendar or group that guests can join?

Addi: We do have a personal venue called Club Addictions that we can rez and it is available for parties. We can offer a specialized show in our venue if someone is looking for a club atmosphere for any event or party. Patrick and I both offer DJ services for parties and weddings. We are currently DJing at a couple of venues a few times a week but if we start having weddings and/or parties booked, we will devote all of our time to our customers.  We also have a small dancing area at Simply Chic Boutique that is open to everyone, adult contemporary/jazz music playing 24/7 on our land.  We do have a group called “Fans of Patrick & Addi'' if anyone would like to come to our DJ sets.

SLE: With your fingers in many businesses competition can be tight for shopkeepers in Second Life, what makes Simply Chic Boutique different from others and how are you attracting customers? Also, if the customer wanted to see your product online do you also have a shop on SL marketplace?

Patrick: Yes, Simply Chic Boutique has had a small but faithful following since it first launched. You can find our store at http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Blue%20Mountain/111/42/26

Addi: My goal is to have fun creating items that we all enjoy shopping for, hoping our special items will attract customers in the Marketplace and having them come into our store in-world. We are still learning how we can promote the new store. We do offer a small discount on select items in-world. We are thankful for SLE doing this interview!

SLE:  Thank you! Customer service is an important part of running a successful shop. What is your preferred contact for shopping inquiries?

Addi: I love our customers and I want to make sure any question or concern a customer has is taken care of right away.  In my notecard included with every order I give a few tips and hints and I also ask them to message me in-world with any questions or concerns. I will do everything I can to help and make sure the customer is satisfied.  Patrick is also available to help.

SLE:Well we appreciate you taking the time and letting our readers learn more about the Simply Chic Boutique and the other services you offer. Now, is there anything else you would like to share with our readers about Simply Chic Boutique?

Patrick: We'd love people to add Simply Chic Boutique to their list of places to explore and experience in Second Life and feel free to unwind with friends and loved ones.

Addi: We have a variety of items for sale in every building. There are several places with animations if you wish to relax, have fun, or dance. We even have a hair salon with animations too. We wanted to create a fun area for everyone, not just shopping. If you need a gift, we have a great selection of items for men, women, and children, we have special holiday items as well and a few greeting cards too. We add items to our store quite often. We keep all of our items reasonably priced. Look for our promo-priced items on new releases. Join our group “Simply Chic Boutique” for a free tropical dress and get notifications of sales and special events.  If you're looking for a wedding venue or planning a party or any event, please feel free to contact us for information. Thank you, SLE.

SPOTLIGHT ON BEYOND VANILLA FUN PARK- LANAI JARRICO REPORTING…

Beyond Vanilla Fun Park is a progressive sim that encompasses the passion of one woman named Karlee Heartsong and her varied lifestyle. She is a Vet who served in the US Army from 1978 to 1992. Karlee is also a hunter and biker with a sweet baby girl submissive side.  You will find her background and embedded throughout the sim.  Beyond Vanilla is constantly changing and improving to provide interactive activities for all guests. Besides a music club, BV has a riding track for motorcycles, vehicles, and even horses. Anyone can come and explore the fun interactive surprises seeded around the track for adults with various tastes.  Karlee and the Beyond Vanilla team also hosts fundraising events and tournaments. Most recently with the Hand and Foot Tournament with cash prizes!  We met up with Karlee and her team,

DavisDeLong Resident and Amythe Moonlight to learn more about Beyond Vanilla Fun Park, its recent renovations, and what’s to come.

Interview with Karlee Heartsong

SLE: Hi Karlee, First and foremost, thank you for your service.  It’s great to meet up with you to talk about all the new and exciting things happening at Beyond Vanilla Fun Park. Before we get into the new sim renovations I’d love for our readers to learn a little bit about you and your background.

Karlee: I grew up, mostly, in rural America. I was born into a very large family. Six(6) older sisters, one older brother, and two(2) younger brothers. My time was spent running the hills and woods in the Appalachian Mountains. I hunted, fished, and camped out with my dad and brothers. My older brother (exactly 23 years older as I was born on his birthday), was in the Korean War. I always wanted to follow in his footsteps as he was my hero. I joined the Army when I was 22 and loved every single minute of my 14 years. I wanted to retire but my body could no longer take the strain of all physical activities involved.

Many of my family members were in the biker lifestyle. I wanted to ride so bad that when I was eleven years old one of my cousins tried to teach me. I still have scars on the left side of my body where I rode alongside a barbed wire fence for over a half mile! After that, I rode bitch. Now I am living my dream and riding here in SL. Don't tell anyone but I am actually still learning.

SLE: Many from around the world come to Second Life for a variety of reasons. Where are you from and how did you discover Second Life?

Karlee: I currently live in Colorado, USA. I have been playing MMORPG's since 1999. I wanted more interaction with people. A friend told me about Second Life. I checked it out and found that I could be whomever I wanted to be in this virtual world. I am so comfortable in my own skin in real life that after playing around for a year or so, I decided that is who I would be here, myself.

SLE: The most successful sims in Second Life have a strong team. Can you tell us about your team members and what they do?

Karlee: There are three of us, right now. I built the sim and am renovating it. I don't have the creative mind to build the items that I wish to use on my sim but there are a great many people in Second Life with that ability, so I buy what they make. I have a great General Manager, Davis Delong. He handles all the day-to-day running of the sim.  He is the human resource manager too. Our club manager is Amythe Moonlight who is fantastic and has complete control of how it is run. She is a wonderfully kind and creative soul. Everything concerning music is her area of concern. Plus she comes up with great ideas to make the sim better. The three of us have become a pretty cohesive team.

SLE: While exploring I noticed that Beyond Vanilla Fun Park is not just another sim with a club. You made some recent changes to the sim, can you tell us what inspired you to create BV?

Karlee: Beyond Vanilla Fun Park has had many facelifts. I was going to make a medieval village, a BDSM sim, a male dominant/female sub sim but none of them had any meaning to me. I needed to find something that I could truly get behind. I decided to build parts of my real life here in my second life. I choose my favorites: my military life, my love of the motorcycle world, and my submissiveness. When you visit Beyond Vanilla Fun Park you will find that I honor the military and veterans of the United States through the flags, the memorials, and the charity events we host. My love of motorcycles shows up in my riding tracks. I started to have them just as motorcycle tracks but have expanded them to include cars and horses. I have not yet built the part of the sim that will honor my submissiveness.

SLE: Can you tell me what guests can come to expect when they visit Beyond Vanilla Fun Park?

Karlee: There is so much to do here. When you first arrive you will be at the club then you can walk or teleport to our many attractions. We have a Mississippi-style riverboat where there is a formal dance area, card games such as hand n foot, greedy, Texas hold ‘em, and a very comfortable cuddles area on the top floor. We have a separate Games area too. There our guests can find arcade games, bowling, and even an escaped room. We have a public dungeon that is set on its own parcel for privacy, a tactical situation area that includes archery, a hostage situation game, and a 3 level Zombie hunt area to name a few.

SLE: You recently had a Hand and Foot tournament where winners took home some cool cash prizes. Your next event is the USO Charity Show & Silent Auction from May 22 to May 30th. Can you tell our readers about that event?

Karlee: Oh yes, one of my loves. The USO Charity Show & Silent Auction is all about the Wounded Warrior Project. I want to give back to veterans, like me, that suffer or have suffered from physical and mental disabilities due to our service to our country. The silent auction will be a week-long auction leading up to the USO Charity Show. Businesses across Second Life have and are donating items to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The auction is from May 22 through May 30, 2021. The prizes will be awarded on May 31 and June 1, 2021. We have coupons for motorcycles, motorcycle tracks, military bears, clothing, and much more.

The USO Show is based on the shows that Bob Hope and his contemporaries did in World War II and Vietnam. There will be a variety of live singers, acoustic guitarists, dance troupes, magicians, and DJ's, many of whom have donated their time.

SLE: I see you are a proud supporter of the Wounded Warriors Project. Charities are a great way to do your part to help veterans and other fundraisers you are passionate about.  What other tournaments and events do you host?

Karlee: I am passionate about anything to do with the military and its veterans. We have a kiosk for Homes For Our Troops (HFOT), more charity events are in the planning stage for First Responders throughout the world, Military Caregivers, service dogs for veterans and women vets. I am planning on three or four charity events each year. We also plan some cool fun events too. These include an archery tournament, zombie hunting tournament, demolition derby contests and as we add more to the sim, more tournaments and events will be held.

SLE: What makes Beyond Vanilla different from other sim experiences in Second Life?

Karlee: We are not just another music club, we have a wide variety of interactive things to do that appeals to just about any adult in second life. Beyond Vanilla Fun Park will not become a static sim. I will always be renovating some area or another. Like I am doing with the riding tracks. A road captain came through and we went for a ride. She had some great suggestions and I am incorporating some of them. When all is said and done that area will be vastly improved.

SLE: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Karlee: Beyond Vanilla Fun Park will be a constantly changing sim. As people lose interest in a venue, I will replace it with something different. I am always open for suggestions and I want people to know that when they find something not working the way it should to let me know so I can fix it. http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beyond%20Vanilla/205/145/21

GeekSpeak subject for Saturday 15th May at noon SLT: Total electrification!

What changes can we expect in the world when everything runs on electricity only?  No machines running on oil, no coal or gas for heating.

The power will lie with those who can make electricity cheaply.  Since solar energy is now cheaper than other forms of energy it will probably lie with the producers of solar energy.  Solar produces more electricity on the blast area of a nuclear plant than the nuclear plant itself. And solar energy does not need to be dug or pumped out of the ground.

What will change politically?  Which countries will be the new superpowers? Countries with lots of desert, or countries with lots of sea for floating solar plants?

And what about the millions of small solar installations on everyone’s roof?  Will we all be power sellers in the future?

Come and discuss the future of power (in all its meanings).  Bring your friends!

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class at 1pm every Wednesday in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

May 15th - Neon Fiction DEBUTS LIVE at Terry's In The Park!

Join us on Saturday, May 15th beginning at 2pm SLT for a special LIVE debut performance from Neon Fiction, a group of 5 friends based in South Wales, UK. They came together through friendship and a mutual love of music.

The idea of the band was thought of after 3 of the band members went to see a concert of The Midnight (American Synthwave band) in Bristol. They felt inspired to create their own sound. They all bring together their individual influences and styles to make what is Neon Fiction's own sound. Bands such as , The Midnight, Bon Iver, Vulfpeck, Jacob Collier, M83, Manchester Orchestra, Volcano Choir, Nothing But Thieves to name but a few are big influences in the style of Neon Fiction.  They came together to create music heavily influenced by Synthwave and indie folktronica music.

Neon Fiction would consider themselves a “virtual band”. They play online in Second Life® as well as streaming live video on platforms like Twitch, YouTube and Facebook.

Tally Mercury (vocalist) has been also been performing live as a solo artist in Second Life® for over 10 years, and has come to love the live music community there, as well as understands the potential for it as a platform for live music events for the band Neon Fiction.

The band released their first Single “Hold On”  in August 2020, and will be releasing another single in the Autumn, before releasing their first EP early in 2021.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!

May 16th - Gabriel Da Silva DEBUTS LIVE at Terry's Sunday Showcase

Join us on Sunday, May 16th beginning at 5pm SLT for Terry's Sunday Showcase, sponsored by the SL Enquirer! This week's featured artist is Gabriel Da Silva! Debuting at Terry's this week, Gabriel started in music in Porto, Portugal, born and raised of a family of musicians, learning and practicing passionately throughout his life, faithful to his unique style and his true love: Hard Rock.

The Gabriel da Silva project began in 2016 due to the demand from fans to hear more of his original music after hearing glimpses during his online cover gigs, and to date, the feedback on the originals has been overwhelming and ‘insane’.

Thus, everything has come into place. In recent months Gabriel de Silva has won 1st place in worldwide music competitions and has hooked up and signed with worldwide agency Metal Music Bookings and Management and has brought together a team of skilled, trustworthy musicians who also love music, to work with him in his newly formed power trio, both in the studio and live.

Within just weeks of forming the power-trio, Gabriel da Silva was invited on tour (and gladly accepted) to support the legendary Anvil, both in the UK and mainland Europe.

Come support live music with friends, laughter, and a whole lot of fun...ONLY at Terry's Place!!!
