Does Mixing Business and Friendship Work?”- MajikVixen Reporting.

-Well, let's put it in the SL blender and see if it's palatable!  ...I trudged forth and polled different people, from all different walks of Second Life, on their experience, and this is what they said...

My first and most obvious inquiry was to a store owner, who's an upstanding citizen and been doing exemplary business for years.  She remarks that, "It's been 99% successful.  The 1% are those who push the boundaries of friendship...but you see how small that percentage is.  One thing about business in SL... it's so easy to make corrections and make the customer happy.  Nearly all of my products are 'copy,' so returning money is not an option for me, although I have made a few exceptions depending on the circumstances.  On the whole, mixing friendship with business has been quite a nice experience here in this virtual world."

The next person I asked, owns a successful venue.  She says it can be tricky mixing the two, especially when you have an acoustic venue and have friends who use tracks or both.  Luckily her friends understand and still come to support, and will do acoustic for them.  She also stated that nothing awful has happened, and that she recommends owning a venue if you can afford to do so without having to have tips to pay for it, "...we don't ask for tips.. There is a small can..if people want to tip the can there it is and we appreciate every linden.  We never ask..to me owning a venue is my want so why should I expect  people to pay for it...we  promote every show well... Facebook, Avatarbook, Avatar Social Network, Google, Twitter, Subscribo, events and friends.  ...We basically annoy everyone LOL."

After that, I asked a general manager of quite a new and successful game.  She basically said that she doesn't let friendships affect her business relationships, because she's wise about it.  Business is business, and the business she does is fun, so it's rewarding in itself.

I then was referred to StormyDaze15, regarding this with her and Chris's new game, Treasure Quest.  She stated that mixing business and friendship has worked very well for them, and that they have a great relationship with all that have their game.  Her business relies on good friendship relationships, as it is supported widely by word of mouth, "A few people knew we were working on the game, so they did tell people that liked this kind of stuff."  She also added that they have made some long lasting friendships with landowners from their game as well, "They also know they can IM us anytime they have an issue with the game, no ticket needed."  Very cool, and they seem to be off to a great business start!

I also polled a store/mall owner and she said,
"I had the best of times with my SL best friend.  We taught each other how to build and make clothing, and had masses of fun whilst we did so.

"We went into business together, a clothing store, I leaned more towards the design side of the business and she was more graphic design for our advertising.  We were lucky to have had such a complimentary relationship.

"Having built our friendship first, we had a solid base for our business, we had already established our likes, dislikes, our ideas on fashion, and we were able to keep it fun too.  There were never any fears of offering what we thought might be silly designs to each other, instead we seemed to bounce of each other's ideas, expand them, tweak them etc.  I really enjoyed our time together, so much fun.

"As a shopping mall owner I seem to have made some wonderful new friends in the store owners.  I do prefer to work alongside the business owners and share ideas, offer assistance where I can.  Being on friendly terms with the owners is mutually beneficial, sharing ideas, contacts, etc."

Next I asked one of the leaders of a huge gaming group.  "It has both worked and not worked..  It could work if you know the person before you go into business with them.  You know their quirks and their history.  You know how they spend money and could conduct business.  Personally I have been in business with several people .. I have learned over time what characteristics I like in a person that I may share in a venture with ..   It is a learning process but I am finding out I am getting better at judging character.  It also helps when you get to know the person in RL as well.. so there is some transparency."  I asked her if she knew the other leader in real life first, or how that worked, and she stated that they met on Skype, " I told him I would not conduct any kind of deep friendship/relationship/ or business unless I can see them in person .. see that they are real .. It is a matter of trust for me.  He had then asked me to be an elder.. then after my efforts in clan he decided to make me a co leader. ...with him I have been so transparent with clan funds that I show him the SL files of my  account ;)"  She confirmed that the best kind of business relationships are based off of trust.  And the way it worked for her is to get to know them more closely.  Then she can judge if it will be a good investment of her time, and the relationship just blossoms from there.  " I cannot trust someone that hides behind an avatar.. they become less accountable."

Then the windlight blew me into the direction of asking a creator of an avatar website what they thought on this subject.
"The short version is, I don't think mixing business and friendship is bad by default.

"The long version is, this question just can't have a general answer.  I have experienced both that came with great losses or great benefits.  It highly depends on the circumstances, the nature of the people and the business itself.

"There are some businesses that can operate even better if friends do it while others can be negatively impacted by them.

"The bottom line is, the people being involved have to look inside and understand if their friendship can handle possible greed, power, control, hierarchy that business may affect."

Lastly, I asked a famous writer, Strawberry Singh about mixing the two,
"...pretty much everything can affect what I write about.  A conversation with a friend could inspire me to write about a certain topic.  A content creator dropping an item on me inspires me to create an image and write about it.  A lot of the memes and blogger challenges I do have often been inspired by a conversation with a friend or even suggestions and requests by my readers.

"So what I write about just comes from whatever is on my mind that day or whatever inspired me that day and yes of course, my friendships and surroundings will have an effect on that."

So there you have it folks!  For the most part, mixing business and friendship needs to work if your business is to survive in this "game" of networking.  Just like in real life.  However, you must build trust and know your boundaries.  Perhaps this drink is best served, with a grain of salt and a dash of experience.

Plugging Into SL Unplugged- MajikVixen Reporting

  MajikVixen By CallieKatz

So having my first article published here, back in December, and becoming a part of the SLE community was pretty thrilling.  I even got a few group notices for the Playmate's Magazine.  That got this little voyeuristic vixen thinking about how she could become a part of that action.  So with Beltane having just passed, I thought it would be totally appropriate to share my experience with you all.

A while back, I allocated my curiosity to explore these intentions a bit with Daallee, The Vinnie Show Manager, one of the owners of The Living Room, my music & event-happening guru, and all around sweetheart friend.  I was concerned that because my avatar is stubbornly special, in staying true to the form of a succubus and prim, not mesh, nobody would want to shoot me for their publication.  However, a couple days later, Daallee referred me to her good friend and longtime Vinnie fan, Callie Katz, who as serendipity would have, just happened to be putting together a fantasy edition for her adult magazine that she Co-Owns with Core Nider, SL Unplugged!

I contacted Callie, and she was enthusiastic to get to work right away.  She was also very polite and professional, which would set anyone's mind at ease during a good, long, productive photo shoot.  She gave me a LUMIPro Talent folder, and all I had to do was wear some of it, and she was able to pose my avatar and get the proper settings she needed.  I must say, I did all the easy work of posing and providing a couple of pretty background places, while Callie went to work showing off her masterfully genius Photoshop skills.

We must have taken about a hundred photos, and Callie brought me back to her studio where I could look at them and take copies of whatever raw ones I liked best.  It was hard to stop myself from taking them all, to be honest!  I think I even took duplicates of my favorites, just to make sure I got them, LOL!  It was extremely hard to pick just one favorite, but she immediately took it into Photoshop and made it so I could use it for a profile photo, or even decorate this article with it (although slightly edited).  I complimented her on the Dr3amweaver Slideshow Deluxe photo-viewer she had, as any picture I clicked on, it gave me a copy of, with ease... and she even gave me the photo-viewer!  Such a sweetheart!

A couple months later, the issue came out.  SL Unplugged , Vol. 2 Issue 3.  It's so exciting to see your sexy self in print and to be able to share beauty with the SL world!  Succubus versus Fairy.  It's hard to tell who would win, as everyone in this magazine is just so gorgeous.  -And the stories!  Dripping with luscious erotic smut, my favorite!

Callie says they're always looking for talent.  Anyone interested should contact her or Core.  For the most part, SL Unplugged is distributed by word of mouth and a few advertising places, but they do have a group.  Anyone who wishes to get a copy of SL Unplugged should contact/friend them.

“The New Money Tree Is Actually A Lindo Virtual Flower”- MajikVixen Reporting...

So what is Lindo?  Lindo Virtual Flowers?  Huh?  You mean you haven't heard of this new rage overtaking Second Life?  Well you are missing out!  To put it simply, this is a new game designed to increase traffic and earn L$ very easily.

The HUD is very simple and is flawless in its design and function.  You just add it, and click the watering can to water your virtual flower.  You’re able to water flowers in areas wherever the sun shines on the HUD.  If the sun is not shining, you just click the "Get Random Location" link on the HUD to teleport to a different place that has the sun shining, so you can water your flower.

You will earn L$ as it grows and reaches full maturity.  To start growing another seed you verify a simple mathematical equation.  The HUD comes with a few free seeds, but eventually you’ll need to buy some more or pass a copy of the HUD to your friends to earn free seeds.

Funds are delivered straight from your HUD, there's no need to visit an ATM.  This is a reliable game you can feel secure playing, and it is Alt and hack proof!  Store owners set up a terminal and seed dispenser wherever they want to increase traffic.  They can set it to SIM or Parcel and add pretty much any amount of L$ they would like to, into it.

It was my husband JonCernunnos Resident, who first noticed Lindo.  We were at our home in Bonita Beach, and he noticed one of the neighbors had something very colorful set up.  Upon further inspection  he realized it was the headquarters of this new Lindo game.  Being an avid fishing player, I tried to get him into my game, I really did, but Jon seemed to have taken more of a liking to Lindo.  In fact, we even have a bet going that he's going to make more L$ at Lindo in 3 months than I ever have in my couple of years at fishing.  It looks like Jon has a pretty sporting chance of winning the bet!

"...There doesn't seem to be any nickel and diming farming scheme to this," he adds, having been extremely disappointed in buying a useless worm farm after completing a quest.

Lindo also has a great team of support agents who always seem to show up at events to greet the patrons and help support the shop owners' advertising and questions.  They are able to converse in many languages.

Lindo was created by a Turkish gentleman, Sofistik (poltergeist.azarov), about a year and some months ago.  He says he it took about four months to release beta tests and about two months of a stable version, and that people knew about it in the 4-5 month range.  He says it all started when he was trying to write some scripts for a girl and her roof-opening building.

A friend of his saw the roof prototype and told him it looked like a flower, which brought the totally unique Lindo project of increasing traffic, to life.  About 400 unique players join weekly.

Sofistik noticed about two months ago, Russian, Turkish, German, and Italian residents started playing.  Lindo is promoted by word of mouth.  Passing a copy of your HUD earns you free seeds.  Terminal owners can also set multipliers to increase traffic on their land.  When this happens, the Lindo group notifies the players right away.

In case you missed it, the location part of their website displays who has a multiplier going at any given time.

Sofistik is always improving his products.  He deems himself "obsessive about the design to make things as perfect as they can be," and rightly so.  Upcoming there will be boosters you can buy to gain double the XP in growing your flowers.  This will also allow players to increase their chances of winning weekly bonuses.

Additionally there is a kick-back to terminal owners as well.  "For example, XP booster seeds will be around L$4 which terminal owners will get half of it."  He added, "Next improvements are all about terminal owners actually... because we want to keep its balance for both sides. We will try to reduce land owner bills as much as possible in next few updates.  And who knows, we might also help them make  profit from Lindo.  What I really want is such a market for everyone in fact."  Very exciting news, indeed!

“A Merry Yuletide Had By All Blitzing The Living Room”- MajikVixen Reporting

To what did these wandering eyes did appear?  Simon Linden as Santa Claus, Jed Luckless' Ibanez inspiring particles, and Sky Fire's captured pieces that lined TLR's foundation -all the great fixin's for an amazing venue full of cheer!

That's right, for the BEST entertainment, The Living Room was THE place to be on Thursday night!  And judging by the crowd volume, I think I saw you there!

Jammin' Jed, a Grateful Dead and Phish inspired musician, flooded our ear holes with poetic guitar wailing mish-mashes of Star Wars, Christmas, and classically soothing improvisations.  This was the perfect balance of rock and just-subtle-enough background to all the festivities.  Always the mark of a great showman, when the musician takes the time to greet all the individual patrons by name.  This was the fifteenth and final show on his tour until next year's, with the exception of the special seventh annual Holiday Review benefit show on Sunday at DarkStar's Hundred Year Hall, where all proceeds go to The Internet Archive: A Non-Profit Digital Library of Free Books, Movies, Software, Music, and More.

Meanwhile, other good deeds were taking place by the HUGE Christmas tree and pile of presents via surprise guest, Simon Linden -or shall I say Simon Claus or Santa Linden?  The ongoing theme in nearby chat was the joke of how nice, naughty actually was... with *hic* eggnog!  Some of the specific things asked for included the BB gun from A Christmas Story by a child avi, the sweet and beautiful of course asked for world peace, it was implied that a hippie wanted certain erhm *cough* LARGE green bags, and I ordered a Big Mac with large fries LOL.  Everybody got at least a cute little Gatcha puppy and a wonderful picture taken by Simon.  -Totally awesome and unexpected!  When I inquired to Daallee and Owl, the owners of The Living Room, how they got Simon to do this, they simply both said they just asked him.  But having seen him and the likes of his Linden droogs in these musical parts before, I think it's because he really just likes the atmosphere and is a good sport!

And if for some reason you got bored of looking at all the different eclectic holiday outfits that adorned the large, happy crowd; your camera could be whisked away, downstairs (underneath our "reindeer paws"), to a healthily displayed eye-feast of Sky Fire's complimentary artwork, available for purchase.  The exhibit features pictures of Jed with breathtaking particles.  From pumpkins, butterflies, and flowers; to fire, tie-dyed fractals, dinosaurs, and cards.  Personally, I find a particle show extremely incredible and indescribable.  It is one of the best things Second Life has to offer, to totally draw you into the experience, and flatter the musical talent.  And likewise, trying to describe this to people who do not come into Second Life, is amusingly pointless!  If a memento picture is worth a thousand words, the experience itself, is priceless.

Bursting entertainment stimulation to all of your senses, The Living Room, owned by Daallee, Owl, and later joined by Nora, will be having their one year anniversary in March.  They feature a new artist every month.  Skyfire will be there until the end of the month of December, and their next musical show will be Boney Mosey on December 29th at 6pm.  Whatever your heart fancies for a fun night out, there's plenty of opportunities for chatting, dancing, lounging and hanging out, camming around, or even swinging from the ceiling!
