SPOTLIGHT on KyrinCorvus- A DJ, Enforcer and Security.- Lanai Jarrico Reporting

If you can think it , chances are it is in Second Life. That is the great thing about this amazing virtual world. You can do or be whatever you want or express your style, skills and curiosity.  For me it has always involved virtual world media but I also love to explore and have fun when I am not in search of the next topic to post in The SL Enquirer. Many times I find inspiration directly from activites I get involved in. Recently, I was a guest on The Pamela Live Show discussing SLE and thought it would be a great idea to give a Spotlight Feature to an audience member.

Before the show I set out a raffle jar on the stage and at the end, a winner was drawn.  You don’t have to own a business to be the subject of an SLE interview. Everyone in Second Life has a story. That is was makes Second Life a neverending source for news. KyrinCorvus was the winner of The SL Enquirer Spotlight feature that night. He is a DJ at mOBSCENE, the Enforcer in Diablos Legion (MC) Motorcycle Club and also happens to be security for the Pamela Live show.

Interview with KyrinCorvus

Lanai: How did you discover Second Life?
KyrinCorvus: I was looking for a new alternative way to chat and meet people compared to the choices at the time. I didn’t much like Second Life at first but came back a year ago and rather enjoy it

Lanai: I’ve hear that from a few people. A Second look brings more clarity. Would you consider Second Life a game or an extension of your real life?
KyrinCorvus:  Second life to me is an extension to real life because it is a way I can spend time with the people I care about the most.

Lanai: What type of things are you involved with in SL?
KyrinCorvus: I am the Dj Manager @ the mOBSCENE,  Enforcer @DLMC, Im learning how to Build motorcycles. Along with many other things

Lanai: You are a busy man. Can you tell our readers about The mOBSCENE?
The mOBSCENE was created by real life family members Raiven (tricialyn) and Halen (schminke) as well as myself, after we decided we wanted a club where we could all hang out and work in Second Life together. Raiven likes to dance, I like to DJ, and Halen likes to ensure operations run smoothly, so we work together incredibly well. The mOBSCENE is a mixture of gothic style, rock music, and a grunge atmosphere, which when combined has created a very unique, alternative hangout for all of us, and anyone else who has had trouble "fitting in" in Second Life.

Lanai: Having family working together in SL must make for interesting conversation at family functions lol. It seems to work well for you. So KyrinCorvus, you are also involved with a Motorcycle Club, can you tell me about it?

KyrinCorvus: I am theEnforcer @Diablos Legion MC, We are a small Group founded by jimmiejax, the president is Cowboy Sunny and the vice president is Caramena , we are looking for members to join our MC so message them with questions.

I’ve hang out at MCs before. I have to say it is like one big family. The atmosphere is more involved in conversation and activitives than the usual music venues with regulars.  Another thing I think is so great is the charity work involved in the MC community. Many Motorcycle Clubs do charity work in Second Life, what causes does your MC support?

KyrinCorvus:  Being a relatively new member we do support all charities but haven't been working with any at this time.

Lanai: When you do, let me know I think it is a great community services. What other things are you involved in on the grid?

KyrinCorvus: I am security for the Pamela Live show,  an advisor for JPAW Radio, and a layout designer for Infinity Magazine, I have my irons in a lot of fires

Wow, working for a magazine alone can be demanding.  I wish you well in all you aspire to do in Second Life. Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers as we look ahead to 2017?

KyrinCorvus: I am working on opening up a Motorcycle Shop.  (no grand opening as of yet). I would like to thank Lanai Jarrico for this opportunity and wishes of luck in 2017.

The Green Lanterns of Second Life – The True Virtual Super Heroes- Debby Sharma Reporting...

‘In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight!
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power… Green Lantern’s light!’

The Green Lanterns have taken their name from the comic book. In Second Life they are the neighborhood watchers. They dress like the original Green Lanterns original comic characters and patrol the grid to assist residents off griefers attack and help new residents. Over the years they have filed several reports to Linden Labs. They also play a role in training the land owners about security arrangements. They offer free training and uniforms to members who wish to join the force. They have started maintaining a live help chat since June, 2014. Here is the link http://lanternalliance.com/irc.htm. No extra Hud or group space is required; no chat interface, just a log in and you are good to go. SL peacekeepers monitor this channel.
Visit their headquarters in The Unknown Country http://slurl.com/secondlife/The%20Unknown%20Country/171/152/2022

In the past few months you might have heard of a link that seem to take to the market place, but instead it has hacking the profile passwords and withdrawing large amounts. You would always hear these from group chats or notices. One such threat I heard, and would like to share with you.
On 23rd November, 2014 BlackAngel Firehawk informed of a Hack Link Warning, “In some Groups today my friend is noticing a link being passed out with the letters MY3GB in it....looks like a Market place link...DO NOT CLICK THIS LINK it will hack your account. Warning do not click on any link with the letters "MY3GB" in it, It takes over your account changes password they buy the max L$ and transfer to different account and cash out and use your account to pass same link to all friends.”
If you hear any of the sorts or any other griefer, do not forget to call the Green Lanterns. To know more about them and their work process, I contacted, the founder, Hal Jordan, Green Lantern Excelsior and I had the honor of speaking with him.

Debby Sharma: How has 2014 been in terms of security?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have not seen the large amount of organized group griefing that has plagued SL in the past. The gigantic problem that seems to be catching many people off guard is a phishing scheme where people get their accounts hijacked, and the hijacker sends out links to a fake SL Marketplace website where residents might carelessly enter their SL username and password. It's too bad people fall for that.

Debby Sharma: What steps are you taking and what steps should we take to prevent that?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): I have seen blog entries and group notices several times about this issue. In some cases it will be a caution to not click on links sent out from some specific person, and in other cases it will be a general "beware" notice to be careful what links you click on. I don't know if Linden Lab has sent any messages about this problem. It is difficult to educate everyone about schemes like this, because there are so many bogus urban legend notices going around that sometimes it's hard to tell which is a legitimate problem and which is just something made up to slander another resident.
I've seen notices cautioning people not to click on links or accept items from some specific resident because they will steal all your Lindens or send a virus to your PC or some other incredible claim. I think some of those are just people having a feud with another resident and trying to besmirch the other person's reputation.
If people would just take the time to look at an Internet address and make sure that it really goes to secondlife.com, many of these problems could be avoided.

Debby Sharma: I wanted to ask, do you give training to land owners, if so, is there any schedule for classes?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): I have a 2010 griefer presentation that covers parcel security. I haven't made up a schedule for doing training because people haven't been asking me to train them. The presentation is here: https://sites.google.com/site/herouniversepeacekeepers/parcel-security. I would be happy to go to people's parcels and help them with their security if they are interested. We never charge for any of our services, so it's all free.

Debby Sharma: There are levels at the landmark, each level as a specific color, what do they denote?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): In the Green Lantern comics there was a story line around 2009-2010 that created several different types of Lanterns beyond the green variety. The story was about the "emotional spectrum" associated with each type of Lantern. The Green Lanterns operate on the emotion of willpower, since their power rings can create anything their minds can imagine. The other spectrum colors operate on different emotions, rage (red), greed (orange), fear (yellow), hope (blue), compassion (indigo), and love (violet). There is also black, representing death, and white, representing life.

Debby Sharma: Do you have departments for each?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have the entire Lantern emotional spectrum groups represented at http://lanternalliance.com/, along with several other affiliated peacekeeper groups. We are all on the same side and generally we have the same goals, to help Second Life residents, whether it be reporting griefers, helping new residents, or assisting venue owners with security.

Debby Sharma: I was looking at the application of The Green Lanterns, what specific skills does one require to be a member?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have a wide range of skills that people can use everything from negotiating with griefers to helping new residents to event security. Talents in scripting, building, creating clothing and everything else associate with SL is welcome. The only requirement we have is that a new member must be 180 days old in Second Life, but we have discussed that and decided that a resident can be an associate member from day one if they want to. We just can't give them a free Green Lantern power ring until they're 180 days old.

Debby Sharma: What would be the new projects for 2015?

Hal Jordan (Green Lantern Excelsior): We have discussed creating a welcome center for new residents, with freebies and notecards and links to helpful websites. The idea is in its infancy at the moment but we have enough members that we should be able to create something of value. We are all about helping people and this is just another way to do that.

The Green Lanterns of Second Life (SL)…Saving One Virtual Life at a Time.- Davvek Suun Ki Reporting…

A cry for help is heard in the distance…Real Life (RL) Charity Groups need exposure and donations, Second Life (SL) noobs just starting out with questions that need answering…these are just a few of the many impressive things that the Green Lanterns of Second Life (SL) have responded to successfully.  As they jokingly say..."They were green before it was trendy!"

The Green Lanterns (one of the longest running superhero groups in Second Life) can be described in basic terms as a Neighborhood Watch in Second Life. We dress as members of the Green Lantern Corps from the comics, and patrol the grid looking for those in need of help. We assist new residents in making the transition from Real Life into Second Life. We submit Abuse Reports to Linden Lab when griefers attack. We educate landowners about security arrangements. We provide security patrols for Second Life events. We offer free power rings, uniforms and training to new members. The Green Lanterns stand between innocent residents and those who would do them harm.

PAICE News: CyberSpace: The New Frontier... Baeric Constantine Reporting...

As with any frontier, there are boom towns, and brawls, and even frontier wars, in an effort to create or maintain a border. One would think that this is the fabric of some western novel, or some western film, but, alas, it is not. It is the story of the Internet, the CyberWest, or, CyberSpace: The New Frontier...
Speaking at DARPA's “Colloquium on Future Directions in Cyber Security,” on November 7, 2011, Regina Dugan stated that DARPA are “...shifting [their] investments to activities that promise more convergence with the threat and that recognize the needs of the Department of Defense...[as]...Malicious cyber attacks are not merely an existential threat to our bits and bytes; they are a real threat to our physical systems, including our military systems. To this end, in the coming years we will focus an increasing portion of our cyber research on the investigation of offensive capabilities to address military-specific needs.”
