2021 SL Christmas Expo Opens Friday, December 3^rd
“The 12 Days of Christmas” Helping To Fight Childhood Cancer

Since 2011, the SL Christmas Expo has been “Giving The Gift of Hope”, and is dedicated to children with cancer. The event which supports the American Cancer Society is the premier Holiday shopping and entertainment event in Second Life. Opening on December 3^rd, the “12 Days of Christmas” features more than 150 stores and shops, spread over 15 gorgeously designed regions, and brings together merchants, Breedables, entertainers, and volunteers for 12 days of shopping, music, auctions, and holiday special events.  

As always the Holly Jolly Café presents the top performers in Second Life for nearly non-stop entertainment. Buy a ticket for the Holiday Shopping raffles, visit the Christmas Tree Lot and the Merchant village or stop for a Picture With Santa.

Once again, American Cancer Society partner Linden Lab will take part in the Expo with special surprises and events.  Take a picture with Santa Patch & the Elf Moles, get a Limited Edition Patch on a Shelf elf, and check out the newest Linden Homes at the 2021 winter reveal region.

And don’t forget to check out the Holiday Lights at The Lights of Hope home decorating competition, returning once again for 2021. The Lights of Hope regions feature homes decorated for the holidays by some of the best home designers in Second Life and an entire region of Linden Homes decorated by Lindens and Moles. Vote for your favorites by donating to special kiosks located at each home.

While shopping continues until December 14^th, The Expo culminates with the giant Winter Breedable Auction and the Holidays of Hope Ball on Sunday, December 12^th.

Christmas Memories, The 2020 SL Christmas Expo Opens Next Friday, December 4th Linden Lab Announces Special Auctions and Surprises

Make Christmas Memories for Children With Cancer!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas on the 12 Regions around the American Cancer Society virtual office in Second Life as Lindens and Moles join with Expo Elves, more than 225 Merchants and nearly 100 Live Performers putting the finishing touches on ‘Christmas Memories’, the 10th Annual SL Christmas Expo. The Expo, the largest holiday venue in Second Life, supports the Society and its fight against Childhood Cancer.

Ten Days of Holiday Shopping and Entertainment on Twelve Regions!

The 10 day event opens Friday December 4th through Sunday December 13th, features shopping entertainment and holiday activities including the annual Snowman Contest, Christmas Tree lots, Gachas, Raffles, Auctions and more.  Ride in Santa’s sleigh or pose for pictures on the Jolly Old Elf’s Lap.  Dance and enjoy live performances at the Holly Jolly Café, open 10am to 9pm daily or simply wander streets lined with shops decorated for the holidays.  It’s all at the Expo!

Ebbe Linden Bear To Debut @ 2019 SL Christmas Expo

Linden Lab is doing its part to add to the Magic Of Christmas in Second Life, and help the American Cancer Society fight Childhood Cancer.   Already a partner in the fight against cancer, the Lab is joining in the Expo goal to provide at least $20,000 for VR Headsets for kids in treatment.

As already announced, Linden Lab will be revealing their 4th Edition of the coveted Linden Homes and taking part in the Lights Of Hope Holiday Home Decorating Contest.

SL CHRISTMAS EXPO TEAMS UP WITH LINDEN LAB TO HELP THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY PROVIDE VR HEADSETS TO PEDIATRIC CANCER PATIENTS

The American Cancer Society and SL Christmas Expo announced today that all donations to the “Believe in The Magic of Christmas”, the 9^th Annual Christmas Expo, in support of the Expo’s mission to Fight Childhood Cancer, will be dedicated to help provide funding for VR Headsets for childhood cancer patients. Along with Linden Lab, their partner in the fight against cancer, and our sponsors and participants, the Expo will be working to reach the Goal of $20,000 to help fund the Society’s VR Headset program for pediatric patients undergoing cancer treatment.

WHY VR?

The American Cancer Society and Children’s Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA) have partnered to provide virtual reality (VR) headsets for pediatric cancer patients to use while undergoing various cancer treatments within the hospital.

• For over 100 years, the American Cancer Society has provided patient services to improve the lives of cancer patients. The virtual reality pediatric program uses innovative technology to further expand the services offered to pediatric cancer patients in an extremely impactful and relevant way.
• Research suggests that ideal distraction tasks consume some portion of attentional resources so that less cognitive capacity remains available for processing pain. 
• Distraction is a pain management technique that has been shown to successfully reduce pain and behavioral distress in children during invasive medical procedures. VR distraction is a promising intervention for children undergoing painful medical procedures and is an ideal distractor for procedure-related pain because it competes for attention resources in multiple sensory domains and provides visual and auditory sensory blocking of external stimuli.^..
• 19 studies across nearly 1,000 articles have explored the effects of VR interventions with cancer patients. These studies found:
• VR improved patients’ emotional well-being
• A reduction in patients’ distress in terms of cancer-related psychological symptoms.
• A significant decrease in anxiety, distress, and fatigue immediately after chemotherapy sessions with VR

The Lights of Hope House Decorating Contest will also return for a 2^nd year. The Expo will conclude with the 11^th Annual Holidays of Hope Ball.
