Transylvania Turns 19!

Transylvania, which was established on August 13, 2004, is Second Life’s oldest gothic, vampire, and lycan lifestyle community. With nightly DJs, art exhibits, discussions, shopping, and residences, it continues to thrive as Second Life's oldest community for those with a penchant for the dark. The Transylvania sim is a safe haven for those with an interest in a vampiric lifestyle in Second Life, and home to the Transylvania Family. Unlike most of the vampire communities in Second Life, Transylvania is not focused on role-playing, and is instead a darkly gothic environment built for mood and atmosphere with a strict no combat policy. Walking the streets of Transylvania you’re sure to find the Vampires and Lycans who call it home, but be prepared for the unusual visitors, too. All sorts enjoy an evening under Transylvania’s eternally moonlit sky. All are welcomed. Transylvania is the home of the Transylvania Family which is comprised of Vampires and Lycans. There are four Transylvania Royals who own and run the day to day operations of the Transylvania sim, Willow Raven Paine, Noirran Marx, Joytou Timeless and Sabbian Paine. At Transylvania, there is a strong sense of family filled with dedicated loyal family members that share a close family bond. Each family member contributes in their own unique way to support the family to make Transylvania what it is. The family bond is Transylvania's source of strength, and its legacy. Transylvania has always been about the family as a whole working together as equals or as the family refers to as "One Blood." The Transylvania community is not just made up of family members but its visitors and residents as well. In the evening you can find live dj's at the community's central gathering spot called The Wall. The family also hosts monthly themed events and will host seven days of events for their 19th Birthday Celebrations starting on Monday, 8/7 with a Transylvania Trailer Park Block Party with DJ Lesa, Dark Carnival on Tuesday, 8/8 with DJ Sequoia, Vampire Noir on Wednesday, 8/9 with DJ Sinobi, Bloody Burlesque on Thursday 8/10 with DJ Zarabella, Bloody Fury on Friday, 8/11 with DJ Sabbian, Transylvania’s 19th Birthday Ball on Saturday, 8/12 with DJ’s Sabbian and Chopper and Transylvania’s Bloody Birthday Bash on Sunday, 8/13 with DJ Morden. All events start at 6PM SLT with the exception of the Birthday Ball which starts at 7PM SLT. Other areas of interest on the sim are the Castle, catacombs, family crypt, graveyard, ballroom, shops, the shoreline that connects to Transylvania's sister sim of Hercynia and art galleries. There are residential Townhouses and Row Houses throughout various parts of the Transylvania sim for rent. There are also a lot of spots on the sim that make a perfect backdrop for photographers and bloggers. The Transylvania family encourages creativity and hosts periodic group art shows at its One Blood Gallery.

It's that time of year again! Join us at Flyte for a very special event on Saturday, February 4th beginning at 12 pm SLT to celebrate Ninja's real-life birthday with THREE fun-filled hours of live music from some of the hottest entertainers on the grid!  We'll be partying in the Aviary overlooking the beautifully designed Flyte sim, so be prepared to take plenty of pictures and get there early!

Kicking things off at 12 noon is none other than Amberle Janniah!!  A singer/songwriter/musician from the Philippines, Amberle grew up with several influences that are rooted deep within her family's deep ties to structured church music combined with her mom's pop/power ballad techniques and her dad's more playful rock/jazz approach to performances.

Amberle knew from early on that music was one of the things that would always make sense, so each and every melody sung from her formative years to the present would impact her song choices that span from the 80's to the present (and a few handpicked original songs thrown in the mix). Intent on initially focusing on acoustic performances, she has added tracks to her arsenal, choosing to lean into a wider array of sounds and styles to convey a wider range of emotions and topics.

With her ever-growing enthusiasm for guitar, vocals, and deft arrangements, Amberle will give you a deeper sense of a raw, stripped-down musical experience.

Up next at 1 pm SLT,  get ready for more fantastic entertainment with a special LIVE performance from Tally Mercury (formerly Tallyesin), a singer/songwriter performing acoustic shows in SL since 2011. He has a 20-year history as a performer meandering through the UK and abroad.

Tally is a storyteller with a sound that is both soothing and powerful. He does a wide range of songs that span genre and time. Some of his choices are recognizable and some will be songs you've not heard before but all are guaranteed to be memorable.

From the Beatles to Adele, Coldplay to Bastille, Tally has a distinct style that keeps bringing people back.  

Last but certainly not least, our party continues with another spectacular performance from the lovely Semina! Born and raised on the south coast of Sweden, she is a talented singer-songwriter who has traveled the world playing her music at clubs, festivals, living rooms, and theaters around Scandinavia, Europe, UK, and USA.

With a playful way of mixing genres and a voice that could mend a broken heart, SEMINA now comes to entertain in Second Life with covers from well-known artists.

January 29th - Live Music & Bloch Party at Terry's: Ninja's Birthday Extravaganza!

When friends are near...it's time to CHEER! Join us at Terry's on Saturday, January 29th beginning at 11 AM SLT to celebrate Ninja's real life birthday with SIX fun filled hours of live music from some of the hottest entertainers on the grid! Don't worry about bringing the balloons and cake...just make sure you are not late, my DEAR!

Kicking things off at 11 AM, we'll get things cranking with a Terry's Bloch Party...featuring a special live performance from Shagpile Spyker, AKA Jason Vare, an independent singer songwriter from Bedlington, a small town north of Newcastle in Northumberland UK. He was particularly influenced by artists such as Bob Dylan; The Beatles; Neil Young and many more. In more recent times  Shaggy has been drawn to the sound of Joe Purdy, Ray Lamontagne, James Morrison, Paulo Nutini, and upcoming artists like Paul Liddell.

As a song writer Shaggy draws inspiration from the trials of life, and from the lives of those around him. These inspirations translate into music that is smooth and sincere. He has a creativity that detours from the ordinary!! Lyrically this music takes you to wherever you want to be and is full of emotion.

Up next at 12pm SLT,  get ready for more of our Bloch Party as we welcome spiritLed back for a special LIVE performance on Terry's stage! spiritLed is not new to SL but relatively new to performing live music around the grid. Coming to you from the East Coast, spiritLed has been playing the guitar since his 20's and is now learning and enjoying playing the keyboard.

You will immediately fall in love with spiritLed's covers of songs from artists like: Coldplay, Harry Styles, Train, The Beatles, and more. Join us and hear why he is beloved by fellow musicians around the grid.

Following spiritLed at 1pm, lose yourself in the music with the amazing Mimi Carpenter!! Known for her distinctively gentle, French lilt, Mimi's talent as a self-taught musician has graced the Second Life music scene for a decade.

As Mimi's presence and talent grew, so too did her repertoire of covers and originals. Mimi’s extensive song list doesn't just highlight the eclectic tastes and influences upon her development as an artist, which includes rock, indie and pop. The inclusion of English, French, and German language songs also reflect her travels and experiences living throughout Europe and abroad.

Taking the stage at 2pm SLT will be Shamrock Defibrillator, an exciting recent addition to the Second Life entertainment scene, playing original music in a virtual world.  Imagine Bill Withers heading over to Abbey Road in a Cadillac to pick up Ben Harper so they can catch the tail end of THE Reverend Al Green's sermon...this fantastic performer is definitely not your ordinary Shamrock!

At 3pm SLT, Terry's Bloch Party continues with another spectacular performance from the lovely Semina! NOMA FALTA is a POWERFUL, passionate performer in the Music scene of Second Life.  A vocalist, bass player, and guitar player in genres covering Blues, rock, soul, pop, and jazz-influenced tunes.  Noma plays bass and sings live with tracks for solo shows, but she can also perform a solo acoustic show - just woman and guitar.
 
 She is a powerful, soulful Vocalist and Musician enjoying the company of Second Lifer’s for over 13 years. A high-energy artist who loves being involved with the audience during her shows. From solid grooves with bass and tracks to heartfelt unplugged acoustic shows - it is all about the Music and You.

A Multi-instrumentalist and Strong Vocalist with power and soul embedded in all music endeavors, Noma has extensive experience for the past 40+ years around the Real-world on stages, arenas, and bars across the U.S and overseas.

Joining Noma for this special LIVE ensemble is Donn Devore, who is a music producer, audio engineer, multi-instrumental musician, singer, composer, and Second Life performer since 2007.

Inspired by Nine Inch Nails, Pink Floyd, and more, Donn performs a mix of original rock and electronic music.  Combining influences from rock, trance, and techno genres, Donn has developed a delicious blend of sounds from guitar-based love songs to high energy dance music to experimental electronic pieces.  He demonstrates a broad range of musical talent singing with a rich, soulful voice while jamming on guitar and keyboards. His live shows are exciting to watch with colorful visuals and particle effects creating a fully immersive live music experience while inviting audience interaction.

Real Life Birthdays vs Second Life Rez Days- Pandora Drezelan Reporting..

I recently celebrated my fiftieth birthday in real life which was a really big deal for me, hitting half a century and I still feel the same which is a bonus.

At the end of this year I will be celebrating my fourth rez day in Second Life and for me both experiences vary a lot. Some people celebrate their real life birthdays within Second Life and vice versa with their rez days and real life.

The summer of 2013 will be remembered as the 10^th anniversary of Second Life ©. The SL 10 B Community Celebration has been working discreetly behind the scenes to bring you the most astounding 22-sim fairground bursting with the creativity of avatars. Stareyes Galaxy had the privilege to preview the fairgrounds and talk with some of the personnel and exhibitors on the eve of the opening.

Arriving at the welcome area, I was expectant but also a bit hesitant, having already heard of the numerous exhibits to be seen at the SL 10 B CC fairgrounds. As I walked over to the nearest pod ride station, I quickly realized how little imagination I had had, as the sights started to unravel all around me. The pod rides are divided to the East and the West Exhibit tracks, and taking the ride, the visitor gets information on the exhibits located adjacent to the track. There is a HUD to control the speed of the pod, and you can get off anywhere you wish.

The sheer number of exhibits left me breathless, and soon I was experiencing “fairground frenzy”, only missing a stick of candy floss to tangle my hair in. The exhibits range from commercial to the artful, showing all aspects of SL creativity. Ethnic groups, charities, entertainment - all are represented for a good day’s family fun. The sims are “G”-rated, so I do advise discretion.

I talked with the creator of the pods, Yavanna Llanfair, who said she does these as a service to the SL 10 B celebration. Her exhibit tells about the history of the pods, how they came about, and the basic principles of how they work. “This is the third SL  B I have run the pods. It’s a big responsibility, but I love that sort of responsibility – something I have to get right,” she told me at her exhibit. She doesn’t sell the pods that also run routes on mainland, but she does sell the scripts to make the pods run.

What is SL9B? Allen Eppenberger Reporting...

 

Lately I’ve been getting notices about something called SL9B. It’s short for Second Life Ninth Birthday. Or the ninth anniversary, if you prefer. A group of SL’ers has formed to create the ultimate birthday party for everyone to celebrate at!

Originally a celebration that had included Linden Lab, the Lindens have turned it over to the residents of SL. The theme for the celebration is“Community”.
