GeekSpeak subject for Saturday 26th November at noon SLT: What will you take with you to Mars?

What will the future Mars settlers need to take with them?  Will they have to take all the oxygen, water and food they need for 2 years?  And materials and tools for building a base?

Or will human settlers need to take nothing with them because robots will have prepared everything before they arrive?  Will the settlers simply step into a luxury base with all the food and oxygen already available?

What is needed for a human to survive on Mars?  And what is needed to thrive once you get there?  Do we know exactly what will be needed?  Will the robots we send before us be able to tell us just what we will need?  What will the ‘technology tree’ of a Mars settlement be?

Come to GeekSpeak at noon on Saturday to discuss what we will need on Mars.  Serious people only.

IM Vulcan Viper, who teaches a meditation class every Wednesday in the GeekSpeak auditorium, if you have ideas for new subjects.

Time Traveling Through Your Playlist by Linda Lauren

I had a beauty day recently, and my first stop was the hair salon for a splash of fresh color. I usually do this on my day off and I elect the entire day to attend to personal grooming, necessities and errands. The owner of the salon usually has on a favorite station and it happens to be one that I like, too. So the experience of sitting and waiting in the chair while he works becomes an experience in memory recall.

I love music. It stirs emotion and speaks directly to the spirit in ways that range from subtle to empowering. It is a colorful array of sound created through inspiration that we draw upon in our everyday life. Music can bring us down or pick us up. It can remember scenes of the past while creating new ones for the future. Often, we move toward music to embrace awareness and healing.

Sitting in the salon chair listening to music from my teenage years brought forth a flood of emotion and nostalgia that ultimately made me smile. I asked myself the question: what if I created a playlist for the specific purpose of drawing on memories I wanted to fondly recall? Would it be beneficial to my body, mind and spirit? I decided to try it and I garnished surprising results. My mood improved and the time spent in the salon (which is usually over an hour) felt like it was the shortest ever. When I returned home I created my own playlist and I recommend that you give it a try. Here is a way to get started.
  1.  Pick a time of your life that holds the fondest memories.
  2.  Research the songs from that decade and choose the ones that speak happiest to you.
  3.  Create a playlist and loop it to play throughout the day in the order you feel fits how you want to feel.
  4.  Journal or log what surfaces for you.
Granted, you may come away with some sad feelings, but the happy ones will be the strongest, so make sure to keep your focus on the positive. Try it for a few days and see how you feel afterward.

Enjoy, and happy time traveling through your playlist!

Take a Trip to SL Jamaica; a Virtual Beauty to almost rival that of "true" Jamaica- Mikile Vinciolo Reporting…

I grew bored of my mundane Second life, living a virtual life in an average family community sim with a slowly diminishing population can cause an avie to want to break free.

I needed an immediate break from the ordinary, so I packed a bag, or two, or three, and I took to the nearest airport and SL Jamaica was on my travel itinerary.
I knew that this paradise had to exist somewhere on this virtual platform, and I had finally found it, or should I say, it had finally found me.

MOVING Art Experience ~ In the Sweet Bye & Bye

Since I've been in Second Life, I have visited many art exhibits, but none of them moved me as much as the In The Sweet Bye & Bye, An Immersive Memoir exhibit I took in as part of the African-American Experience in Art series with i-Learning Workshops through The Aesthetic Technologies Lab, College of Fine Arts, Ohio University. I took in the exhibit this weekend, and it was, to borrow a word from the series title, an experience for me to walk into the space of the art installation and be taken back into time, into histories of my own existence and make me remember while working through the histories of the artist behind the project, Jacque Quijote (aka Philip Mallory Jones :: website).

Need Some Fun in Your Life? Check Out Pando!

I'm always looking for something fun to do--not only for myself but also for my daughters and granddaughter and the myriads of friends who might stop by, bored, needing something to do.

Saturday afternoon, I had my mind set to go to this one particular place on the grid and ended up on Pando instead--and needless to say, I'm glad for that. There is SO much to do...and it was MORE than fun.

Let the fun begin

TRAVEL & INSIDE SL - Churches in SL - Shon Charisma Reporting

Fort Augustus Abbey on Loch Ness
Link to Real-Life Abbey

I like to visit places. It's a big part of what I do in Second Life. Can't get to Paris in real life? Check it out in SL until you get there for real. Want to see the Statue of Liberty? Then take a TP to New York in SL, and in a matter of seconds you'll not only see the Statue of Liberty, but you'll also see the 911 Memorial. When I'm in the mood to have some peace and quiet, to think and not be disturbed, I often find myself searching beautifully crafted churches in SL for solace--and there are many of them--some where services are held and some where just for the beauty of the real life version, they are created in Second Life.

TRAVEL & INSIDE SL - Pictures from Art Maze 2011 - Shon Charisma Reporting...

Last week, while traipsing through Second Life, I received a notice about Art Maze 2011. The notice mentioned evil clowns and well, I just couldn't pass that kind of notice up. I took the limo to Art Maze, and all I have to say is wow. Just the parts I meandered through made me feel like I was on a psychedelic trip of epic proportions. The colors, movements, images almost attacked the senses and definitely, at some points, had me on edge--especially the evil clowns. There was even one point where Ms. Charisma had to run...and run fast.
