''THIS CONTEST ALLOWED ME TO RECOVER THE FEELING OF BEING A WINNER!''
- Avalon Chrome

If you didn't think it was possible to compete with the professionals, think again! The 2019-2020 winner, Quinte, had never walked a runway before she was chosen as a Look of the Year finalist! She listened carefully and worked hard and then the unimaginable came true!

Unsettling for a pro to compete against beginners? Very certainly, but this is where all your expertise comes into play!

This is much more than a beauty contest, the LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR competition is intended to be a life experience allowing women to build their strength and to increase their self-confidence. And the testimony of Avalon Chrome, LOOK of the YEAR 2020-2021, is very eloquent on the subject.

“This competition and this victory could not come to a best time of my life, '' she says. I was barely coming to start my business in real life and have seen all my efforts almost dashed because of the pandemic and I had really need to focus on a project, to work hard, and succeed! This competition allowed me to rediscover the feeling of being a winner! ''

For Avalon, this formidable adventure has allowed her to achieve one of her biggest virtual dreams! This RL marketing specialist and graphic artist joined Parisian Skytower and Mika Palmyra, the co-owners of LUXE Paris, and she is now part of the design team!

MULTIPLE CHANCES OF BEING SELECTED! PARTICIPATE AS MANY TIMES AS YOU WANT!

You can submit as many photos as you want, but each one must present a different outfit. Each of the photos submitted will be evaluated by the jury as if it was a new candidate. So the sooner you start participating, the more likely you are to be selected in the semi-finals.
Each week for five weeks, starting May 5th, we will be posting photos of 6 semi-finalists here in the SL Enquirer and on our website. In addition, we will be exhibiting the photos of all the participants in the Hall of Candidates at our main store on Bao.

When we have 30 semi-finalists, our jury will then select 12 finalists.

FINALISTS WILL RECEIVE 10 FREE OUTFITS

The twelve finalists, selected from the photos, will be revealed on June 9 and invited to the Judges' Brunch on Saturday, June 19.

At this event the judges will be meeting the 12 finalists in person for the first time.  Each of the 12 finalists will grace the stage, introduce themselves and explain why they would be the best ambassador for the LUXE Paris brand. Judges may also address specific questions to the finalists so be ready and make yourself shine with your answer.

Then we will end the brunch with a shopping spree at LUXE Paris! Each of the 12 finalists will be invited to choose 10 LUXE Paris outfits of their choice.

TWO CHALLENGES-SHOWS

The Judges' Brunch  will be followed by two challenge shows in which the finalists will be assessed on their style, charisma, elegance, and stage presence.

The first challenge-show will take place on Saturday, July 3 on the theme "Reveal the star in you".

The second challenge-show will take place on Sunday, July 11 on the theme '' A ball to save the planet '' and will be immediately followed by the grand finale and the crowning of our LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR 2021-2022!

A PRESTIGIOUS JURY

The two challenge-shows will be judged by a prestigious group of fashion and media experts: Parisian Skytower and Mika Palmyra, owner-designers LUXE Paris, Avalon Chrome, LOOK of the YEAR 2020-2021 and now designer at LUXE Paris, Frolic Mills, founder of BOSL and Miss Virtual World, Ponchituti Boucher, owner ONE On ONE Modeling Agency and ProPose, Zuri Rayna, owner-designer Zuri Jewelry, Adonis Lubomir, owner-designer Swank, Naar Rexen, LOOK of the YEAR 2017-2018 and owner In-Nova Modeling Academy, Chemak Kamala, owner-editor SL Confidencial magazine, Lanai Jarrico, owner-CEO of The Second Enquirer, Ahn Avion, owner WomenStuff group, and Melany Aguilera, modeling instructor and manager Bon Amour Hair.
The judges will award a score to each finalist in each of the two challenge-shows and the total of these two scores will determine the winner and the 2 runners up. The finalists will be judged on their style, elegance, originality, charisma, and their presence on stage.

Congratulations are in order for Avalon Chrome! The New Face of LUXE Paris!- Lanai Jarrico Reporting...

This contest took place over a course of a month for judges to vote behind the scenes as the contest came to an end at the finale on Sunday July 26th.  A total of 12 finalists walked the runaway in style and grace  and 12  judges involved in fashion, business and media convened at a 4 hour competition.

Each contestant was a star in their own right. From a fierce runway model for over a decade to the beginner who handled herself like a pro .  These ladies did a fabulous job! It was a pleasure to serve on the board of judges for the 2nd year in a row and an honor to present the new Face of LUXE Paris… Avalon Chrome!

SLE: Hi Avalon,  I want to congratulate you on your title! After months of hard work it has to feel amazing! What were your first thoughts the moment your name was called?

Avalon:  Thank you!  I couldn’t be more honoured to be chosen as the 2020 LUXE Paris brand ambassador and am so excited to work with co-owners Parisian Skytower, & Mika Palmyra and COO Julia Brand.  At first, I was in complete disbelief. But once I picked myself up off the floor and let it sink in, I thought, “Wow, I guess hard work really does pay off!”

SLE: Where are you from and how did you discover Second Life and your passion for fashion in SL?

Avalon: I’m from southwestern Canada (British Columbia). I discovered SL right at the end of its beta period, so my first avatar who’s now 17 yrs old,  is one of the originals. That avatar was mostly for RP games as there was really no fashion industry to speak of. But as SL evolved, I created Avalon specifically for the fashion industry as it’s a way for me to express my creativity. I love styling Avalon and then photographing the different looks in unique ways. I also love blogging (www.chroniclesofchrome.com) about it as it’s a great way to support the industry I love so much.

SLE: You have a very distinctive vintage elegant look from beachwear to formal. Can you share with our readers your inspiration for the outfits you chose for the competition?

Avalon: Although I have fun styling everything from glam to AG, to Fantasy, I'm most comfortable wearing stylish haute couture, while adding just a hint of gracious sensuality and a dab of edginess. Thankfully, my style sensibilities seem to be in alignment with the LUXE Paris brand.
It was how the garments made me feel when I put them on that inspired my styling.  For the Shopping on the Promenade theme, I wore the sassy little polka dot dress called “Larimar”. When I tried it on, I felt graceful and sophisticated and when I added the classy arm wrap and the flowing bow sash from the “Fabulous” gown, I felt like doing the Swan Dance across the room. So I ran (or pliéd) with the whole ballet theme and before I knew it I was wearing en-pointe style heels and choosing poses resembling ballet stances. I playfully named this look, “A Ballet of Polka Dots”.
The AMARYLLIS gown I wore for the opulent Met Gala theme invoked some powerful emotions in me when I tried it on. I was completely taken by how feminine and regal the stunning peach and gold gown made me feel. I was also moved by an overwhelming and unexplainable feeling of hope and joy.  My vision was to express a celebration of femininity while invoking a sense of hope and joy to a world that could really use that right now.  I named this styling, “The Divine Feminine” to not only honour the gown itself but to celebrate all women.  The chiffon train, which pours out of a golden rose bloom, was created from the veils and rose accessory of the KRYSTELLE bridal gown. The regal golden fans I wore on my head and back feature decorative birds to symbolize hope for mankind during these challenging times and the promise of a bright, new future.
And by the way, I chose to mix and match elements of different outfits to show the jury that I am creative and versatile. Also, I purposely added as much gold as possible to accessorize this gown because gold is part of the LUXE Paris branding.

SLE: What inspired you to enter the contest to be the new face of Luxe Paris?

Avalon:  It’s more of a question of who inspired me. Belle Roussel of Chop Zuey Couture Jewellery, A woman I adore and hugely admire, contacted me one day while  I was modelling in the store. She told me about the LUXE Paris Look of the Year pageant and sent me the link. She encouraged me to enter saying, “I think you’d be perfect for it” followed by some very flattering comments about my sense of style. I really trust Belle’s instincts, so without question, I hopped off that pose stand and raced over to LUXE Paris to quickly get an outfit so I could enter. I had it styled and photographed in about an hour, just making it in time for that round’s submission deadline.  I’m really grateful for Belle, who’s always been so supportive and encouraging of my career. Had it not been for her faith, encouragement and confidence in me,  I wouldn't have had the wherewithal, confidence and determination to enter this pageant and succeed.

SLE: Have you gotten any advice from Quinte; last year’s winner about this role?

Avalon: I had a great chat with her at one of the rehearsals. She’s a lovely person and a wonderful role model. I asked her about her role as LUXE Paris’s Brand Ambassador and what she enjoyed about it. She gave me a few tips but mostly her advice was to have fun with it. I’ll do my best to follow in her footsteps in representing LUXE Paris with grace and elegance.

SLE: Second Life is a grid with endless creativity and imagination. Would you say SL is just a game or an extension of your real life? How has your experience in this virtual impacted you?

Avalon: First of all, I don’t believe that a social-based MMO environment can be experienced exclusively as a game.  There are real friendships and feelings that develop here that make it difficult to be emotionally removed. So for me, it’s definitely an extension of my RL.

You’re right in pointing out how endlessly creative and imaginative Second Life is. I’ve watched this world grow from infancy to what it is today and am still awestruck by the ingenuity of its residents.

Second Life has helped me grow in more ways than I can count. I’ve made some amazing friends here who inspire me to be the best version of myself in RL and SL. On a professional level, I’ve been able to use my SL editorial modelling and photography skills as a means of perfecting my RL technical skills, which has made me a more creative and effective graphic designer. As a result, I now have my own successful graphic design company. SL also provides a balance for me, since I can often get too focused on RL work and forget to have fun. But when I get involved in the process of styling, photographing and blogging, hours pass in what seems like minutes - a good sign that you’re enjoying yourself.

SLE: What are your plans holding this prestigious title?

Avalon:  I plan to go over and above the traditional role of a brand ambassador by using my RL and SL skills to support LUXE Paris in whatever capacity they need me.  As I mentioned earlier, in RL I’m a graphic designer and I also have an associate degree in public relations. In SL I’m a model, photographer and fashion blogger. So when LUXE Paris needs photography, graphic design or PR services, I’m there for them.  As LUXE Paris’s brand ambassador,  I’ll represent the brand visually and through effective, on-brand communication as well as blogging about the products. Also, as the winner of the title, I was given a VIP membership to the prestigious ONE on ONE modelling agency. So I’ll represent LUXE Paris on and/ or off the runway of any shows that feature their product line.  Overall, I’m completely dedicated to collaborating with and supporting Luxe Paris to help them achieve great heights in their success.

SLE: What advice would you give to models who might be inspired by you to  try for next year’s Look of the Year Face of Luxe Paris Competition?

Avalon: The Look of the Year contest is so much more than a beauty pageant, it’s an extensive job interview and should be treated as such. This is a unique and wonderful opportunity to represent an established haute couture designer for a full year. So, put your business hat on and think in terms of what LUXE Paris stands for. Learn as much about the company as you can. Also, research what a brand ambassadors’ job is and think about what your strengths are and how you could benefit the brand. In other words, think in terms of what you can do for the brand instead of what it can do for you. Also, if the opportunity to improve your skills presents itself during the pageant process, grab it. No matter how seasoned a model you are, be open to learning something new. Show them in every possible way that you're collaborative and perfect for this role. And finally, even though it is a competition, support and encourage the other contestants. As women, we need to elevate and empower each other.

SLE: Is there anything else you would like to share with our readers?

Avalon: Wearing this tiara is a big step for me.  So far, I’ve spent most of my time in SL in blissful obscurity and this all happened so wonderfully fast. In all honesty, I’m still in a bit of shock.  Being a brand ambassador to an established designer is something I’ve always wanted but I didn’t think was within my reach.  However,  if winning this title has taught me anything, it’s that if you put your mind to it, push through the difficult times, work hard and have a little faith in yourself, you can make the most seemingly impossible dreams come true.

LOOK of the YEAR THE BRUNCH OF THE JUDGES AND FINALISTS

The excitement was in the air on Sunday, as the 20 finalists of the LOOK of the YEAR competition met the 14 judges for the first time, during an elegant brunch at LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be.

Each finalist was invited on the stage to explain to the panel of judges why he or she would be a good ambassador for LUXE Paris Women Fashion or LUXE Dot Be Men Fashion.

''We are looking for two ambassadors, a woman and a man, who distinguish themselves by the quality of their look and a powerful style and who will represent our brands with grace''. explain the three designers behind this contest, Mika Palmyra and Parisian Skytower of LUXE Paris, and Boniefacio of LUXE Dot Be.

After the speeches, the LOOK of the YEAR official photographer, Jack Rock, captured the unique style and beauty of each of the finalists and then, it was shopping time! Each finalist was allowed to choose 10 outfits, no charge, at LUXE Paris or LUXE Dot Be. That was fun and a really good way to achieve this day, which was the first event of the LOOK of the YEAR finale.

ON THE RUNWAY THIS SUNDAY

This Sunday, the finalists will finally hit the runway and show the judges their modeling skills as they will present the Happy Sunny Afternoon show.

This show combines two challenges. To start, the finalists will model swimsuits especially created for them by LUXE Paris and LUXE Dot Be, in the colors of their RL country flag. For the second challenge, the finalists have been asked to interpret the Happy Sunny Afternoon theme, to express, with their clothes and styling, ''la joie de vivre'' under a beautiful sunshine.

The third and last challenge, Romance at the Ritz in Paris, will take place on July 21th as the grand finale. We will then know who will be the next LUXE Paris LOOK of the YEAR and the first LUXE Dot Be LOOK of the YEAR as it is the first time that the contest has a men category.

THE GRAND FINALE LIVE ON YOUTUBE!

The new ambassadors will each win L$50,000 cash, one year of free shopping at LUXE Paris/LUXE Dot Be (a value of L$30 000), a fashion feature in the magazines ModeLS,  SL Confidencial, L'Amour Diversity and The Second Life Enquirer (a value of L$30 000),  a private dinner party for 20 at the Duplex Club (a value of L$5000), a scholarship at In-Nova Model Training (a value of L$4000), a gift card of L$3500 at ProPose, a gift card of L$3000 at Alma Makeup, a crown by Zuri Jewelry (a scepter for the man), a value of L$1500, an official picture by Jack Rock (a value of L$1000), an hour coaching with Ponchituti Boucher and a VIP invite to be part of AIM Modeling Agency.

The two runners up in each category will also share more than L$35,000 in prizes from the sponsors.

Staged and directed by Julia Brand, LUXE Paris COO, and presented at AIM brand new theater, the challenges-shows will unfortunately not be open to the public. The organization took this difficult decision in order to keep the lag as low as possible so finalists and judges can be at their best. BEAUTY IN THE MAKING – MISS GLOBE UNIVERSAL – JOSH (THOMAS1 BELLIC) REPORTING.

What do you get when you combine a lovely setting, phenomenal attire, and some of the grid’s most beautiful women?  Why, it’s the Miss Globe Universal Beauty Pageant, of course.

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting Rose Mikaelson, Founder and Chairman of the Miss Globe Universal Beauty Pageant.  This year the Miss Globe Universal is celebrating its fifth year, and Rose was excited to share with our readers what all had been accomplished here.  Rumor has it there will soon be a Miss Globe Earth Pageant as well, but details on that are yet to be released. When asked how she got started in pageants, Rose  noted “Before I became another owner of a pageant in the fashion world I was first a professional model. My experiences of both good and bad through the years lead me to knowing in my heart I wanted to do some good in the fashion world. I also wanted to give back through charity. I happen to be a fan of pageantry for a very long time so the fact that SL gives people like us the platform to do and create things we never could have dreamed of in RL is amazing.”  During our time together, I learned that Rose does everything by herself...stage manager, designer, choreographer, lead instructor. She notes “I have no staff at all and that can lead people to thinking that is a little crazy.” I also learned, to my disappointment, that no, I would NOT be allowed to serve as a contest Judge, Enquirer article or not. Sigh

I later had the pleasure of chatting with some of the contestants themselves.  What better way to determine the heart and soul of an organization than to talk with those who are actually involved most deeply?

The contestants came from all over the globe.  Their length of time in SecondLife ranged from one to a dozen years of residency/ with the average being about 4 ½ years.  For most of the contestants the Miss Globe Universal was their first pageant, although a couple had participated in pageants in the past.

When asked how this pageant stood out from others, those who had a basis for comparison noted the intense honesty and integrity of Rose, the CEO.  One contestant noted… “I believe that Miss Globe Universal is not only a beauty pageant. I think that it will allow the ladies that will be part of it to have the opportunity to enjoy, learn, develop and challenge themselves. During that process the contestants can also meet other ladies, share experiences and learn from each other.”  Another contestant noted “I can say Miss Globe Universal Organization is a well-run organization. I felt this when I attended the first meeting after the audition. Rose(CEO) spent her time, and explained every detail and answered our tons of questions. I appreciate that a lot.”

When asked why they decided to participate in Miss Globe Universal, their answers varied. “I don't really see it as a Beauty contest at all but more about fashion and style and how well we as individuals portray ourselves in SL and I love fashion and to explore it so that is why.”  Some were urged to participate by others. “I always had the dream of being part of a pageant as a contestant but never had the courage to do it until a very good friend convinced me to do it and join Miss Globe Universal pageant.” and “I decided to join after a gentle push from a friend of mine who informed me that it was happening.  At first, I wasn't sure if it was something I wanted to do, primarily because it was a completely foreign realm to me. However, the more I thought about it, the more I was convinced that it was the right choice. Regardless of the result, it would be an experience that's new and exciting for me, and I could learn from it. My goal is to gain more self confidence, and the first step would be to try.  In any case, I'd come out as a stronger and better person.”

So then, what does it take to be a successful beauty pageant contestant? In a word – dedication. “Keep practicing on a home runway. Doing meditation , keep calm and positive mind under any situations.  Always thinking happiness of both others and myself.” Another noted “Lots and Lots of time making sure my outfits are right, that I have the right make up and accessories, as well as testing poses and walks to make sure I have the best ones for the outfit that I am wearing.”  One new contestant noted “Since this is my absolute first time, there is so much I need to learn. I'm sort of going in like a blind bat, since I've never had any experience or training prior to this. This means that I must spend more time researching and not be afraid to ask questions.  That is vital. I think often at times, especially in a competition in any field, contestants are afraid to show what they don't know.

Being in a Beauty Pageant is not easy, by any stretch of the imagination.  When asked what is the hardest part of competing, answers varied. One contestant answered, “I would say it would be pulling together an outfit for a specific theme in a certain amount of time because I try to be a perfectionist and I just keep going until it feels right to me and that could mean putting together 6 outfits before I am satisfied with the look, I will eat sleep and breath an outfit until I am happy with it”.  For another, it was the questions that she found most terrifying.

Being a top contestant does not come cheap.  One competitor noted “To be honest, the financial matter also the time are the hardest part(s) for me. This is a challenging.”  And then there was the challenge faced by those who compete in general. “For me, it is the fear of failure. You are always putting yourself out there, and never know if you will win or not.  You are always asking to be judged.”

In closing, I asked the contestants what they liked MOST about Miss Globe Universal.  One participant summed it up nicely when she said “The best thing so far that I've experienced is just simply the thrill of trying something new and seeing myself evolve into a more confident person.  Since we are still at the beginning of the pageant process, there are a lot more things to experience and many more challenges to come. I hope this answer would change as I experience new things. :-)”
