Cinco De Mayo is also known as El Dia de la Batalla de
Pueble. It marks a day in history when the Mexican army celebrated it’s victory
over France in 1862 at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco- Mexican War . It was a battle that lasted 6 years. Since the defeat, the United
States has adopted the holiday turning it onto a celebration of Mexican
heritage and culture. It is very popular where there are higher concentrations
of the Mexican-American populations, like Los Angeles, Houston, and
Chicago. It is also observed in many cities across the states. In 2005, Congress
issued a concurrent resolution to the President for appropriate ceremonies and activities. Celebrations on
this day include festivals, dancing,
Mexican food, drinking and mariachi performances. In Second Life it is
also observed by Many.
I found a couple of places having activities for Cinco
De Mayo so grab your camera and let's go party hopping. You will most likely meet new people, get involved
in the festivities and have fun!
Check out whats going on this weekend!
