Seanchai Library’s Orient Express - Murder on a Snow Bound Train - Seersha Heart

On Friday July 6, 2018 the SL Enquirer brought you news of the Seanchai Library’s “Tea Time on the Orient Express” running July 8 to August 12, 2018.  On July 22, we had an opportunity to visit with the creative energy behind this series.  The series takes place in a skybox created specifically for the Orient Express.  The demise of Mr. Samuel Ratchett occurs in this closed environment.  The murder must be among us.  To catch you up on the story:
“After taking the Taurus Express from Aleppo in Syria to Istanbul, private detective Hercule Poirot arrives at the Tokatlian Hotel. There he receives a telegram prompting him to return to London. He instructs the concierge to book a first-class compartment on the Simplon-Orient Express, leaving that night. Although the train is fully booked, Poirot obtains a second-class berth, but only with the intervention of a friend and fellow Belgian who is also boarding the train, M. Bouc, a director of the railway, Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. Aboard the train, a malevolent, elderly American, Samuel Ratchett, attempts to hire Poirot because he believes his life is threatened, but Poirot refuses out of distaste for the man.
Imagine the surprise when the famed train is trapped in the Yugoslavian mountains by an avalanche, and the unpleasant Mr. Ratchett turns up dead - horribly murdered!”            Seanchai HYPERLINK "http://irelandslstory.blogspot.com/p/te.html" Library website

Seanchai Library’s summer series "TEA TIME on the Orient Express” is moving into the second part of the six-week series.  The series will continue this Sunday July 29, 2018 at 1:30 slt in the Yugoslavian mountains, trapped on all sides by an avalanche.  The next installment will complete the “Evidence” portion of the program leading into the “Hercule Poirot Sits Back and Thinks” segments.

Those familiar with Agatha Christie’s novel Murder on the Orient Express [available free in PDF format or audio] or the movie will find the performance at Seanchai Library delightfully entertaining.  Performed in voice, the series features;

“notable SL voices such as Avajean Westland and David Abbot, in addition to Seanchai regulars Corwyn Allen (as Poirot), Kayden Oconnell, and Aoife Lorefield; and Library friends Boudicca Amat and Bryn Taleweaver.  Audience and voice talent will be mixed together during sessions, adding to the experience.”

The skybox is located above Holly Kai Park on the Blake Sea.  Seanchai Library staff and players highly recommend visiting the series site before, during and after attending the sessions.  The Istanbul station is no longer in place, the skybox has been transformed to the “snowy mountains of Yugoslavia”. Most of the story unfolds in this snowy location within the trapped train.  There is plenty of snow for all. For additional enjoyment I recommend attending in clothing of the period, 1930s. This can add to your own feeling of authenticity while listening and participating in this popular event.  Please see links below for information on clothing of the 1930s for both men and women. If you have not participated in any of the Seanchai Library programs yet, jump aboard this train destination: intrigue!

Watch the SL Enquirer for more information on the upcoming events at Seanshai Library including the
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "The Hound of the Baskervilles" beginning September 2nd 2018.

Part Two - The Evidence:
Sunday, July 29th: 1:30-2:30 pm slt - Part Two, Chapters 8-13
Part Three - Hercule Poirot Sits Back and Thinks:
Sunday, August 5th: 1:30-2:30 pm slt - Part Two, Ch 14 - Part Three, Ch 2
Sunday, August 12th: 1:30-3:00 pm slt - Part Three, Chapters 3-9

History of Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express provided by Seanchai Library’s Caledonia Skytower:
"Murder on the Orient Express" features Agatha Christie's Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. It was first published in the United Kingdom on 1 January 1934. In the United States, it was published on 28 February 1934, under the title of "Murder in the Calais Coach." In addition to Christie's tale, the famed train has been depicted in numerous books, films including Graham Greene's "Stamboul Train" (1932) and "From Russia with Love" by Ian Fleming (1957).
In The New York Times Book Review of 4 March 1934, Isaac Anderson wrote, "The great Belgian detective's guesses are more than shrewd; they are positively miraculous. Although both the murder plot and the solution verge upon the impossible, Agatha Christie has contrived to make them appear quite convincing . . .  what more than that can a mystery addict desire?"

THAT SPOOKY TIME OF YEAR: October at Seanchai Library

When the leaves begin to turn and the first signs of chill are in the first-world air, many begin to think of blazing fires, and stories that send chills up your spine. Second Life is no different as autumnal builds and Halloween destinations spring up, like toadstools in a friendly lawn, all over the grid.  Seanchai Library on the Bradley University sim is among the longest running spoken word venues in SL, and enthusiastically embraces this spirit of the season each year by ramping up the ghost stories, tales of haunting, and other scary fiction from a variety of genres presented live in voice by talented staff.

“It seems like it is the start of the ‘story season’ every year,” said Chief Storyteller, Shandon Loring.  We just get through International Talk Like a Pirate Day, take a deep breath, and then leap into October.  We run all out, full speed, pretty much from October 1st to end of March without a let up.  It’s great!” Seanchai presents literature and stories live in voice year round, five to eight hours a week, with tips going to benefit a variety featured charities annually.  It was founded in March of 2008 and prides itself on being a library whose collection is built “one story at a time, shared live.”

Seancha Library is celebrating this “spookable” of year with an encore presentation of Roger Zelazny’s A Night in the Lonesome October presented in five one-hour sessions by a cast of voice talent.  A Night in the Lonesome October is a semi-satirical novel by Roger Zelazny published in 1993, near the end of his life. It was his last book, one of his five personal favorites, and was nominated for the Nebula Award for Best Novel in 1994.

Seanchai will also feature Robert Beatty’s debut novel, released this year, which Serafina and the Black Cloak follows a 12 year old who is different and lives apart from most other people with her father in a basement.  Serafina has never had a reason to disobey her pa and venture beyond the grounds of Biltmore Estate. But when children at the estate start disappearing, only Serafina knows the clues to follow.  Caledonia Skytower presents the captivating adventure this month in selections at both Seanchai’s home, and their outreach program at Magicland Park.
became a New York Times Bestseller in the first week of its launch and was selected as an Okra Pick for representing "the best in Southern Literature."

One of Seanchai’s most popular weekly sessions is “Tea Time at Baker Street” on Sunday afternoons (SLT).  Since 2012, a core team of four readers has been working their way through the entire canon of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes adventures: four novels, 56 short stories, and a handful of micro-fiction and parodies penned by Doyle himself.  This month the team will complete the final piece in their transit of the Holmesian canon: The Valley of Fear, published in 1915.

In addition to the regular story sessions, Seanchai Library is participating in Literature Alive’s Good Reads Hunt October 1 through 31st.  Eleven or more destinations round out a celebration of autumn’s power to inspire reading and literature. “Reading is amazing past time, and the fall is a wonderful time to grab a book, blanket, and head to shady spot in the woods.”  Hunt information is available at the starting point: Literature Alive!/Desi's Gifts and Prints.   http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Dakiels%20Dream/47/180/2002

The Library is also featuring a new and updated version of “Five Irish Haunts”: an exploration of some of Ireland’s tradition of haunts and spooks.  Many haunting legends are similar, but have different origins in different cultures which are reflected in their stories and folklore.  Seanchai celebrates its roots with the Irish origins of a selection of spooks.  Look for the blue and green information globes to learn about the Banshee, Dear-Dur, Far Liath and more.  Who knows?  There just might be surprises hidden in those wee spinning spheres as well!

The featured charity October through December will be Reach Out and Read, one of the most highly rated literacy charities in the United States, reaching 4.4 million children annually in all 50 states, and distributing over 1.6 million books.  Reach Out and Read is an evidence-based nonprofit organization of medical providers who promote early literacy and school readiness in pediatric exam rooms nationwide by integrating children's books and advice to parents about the importance of reading aloud into well-child visits.

Meet Selina Greene, Owner of Book Island- Piers Diesel Reporting...

Books in Real Life are as popular as they are in Second Life. It is a way for people to either educate themselves. Flick threw magazines for inspiration or to get away and engulf themselves in another world or life.

The Book Island owned by Selina Greene who cleverly came up with the idea of a sim totally dedicated to books and other reading format. Book Island has incorporated the book club idea and taken it to another level; where others can immerse themselves in books or discuss literature with others. Other activities include socializing at events hosted on Book Island.

Selina was kind enough to sit down with me and chat about her creation and how Book Island came about.

Spotlight on Dandilyon Jinx, Owner & Designer of House of Silverjinx and Author of “End of Mae”, Available now on Amazon.com Lanai Jarrico Reporting…

For years, Second Life has been trying to shake off the unfortunate stigma of being just another virtual world game by people who have never experienced the many paths Second Life can take Avatars. Being immersed in virtual world Media since 2004, I have seen what these platforms can do to help people discover talents they never knew they had, to building and expanding their businesses on a global scale.

The possibilities are endless. Now is the time for those who continue to devalue the continued virtual  support and effort of true professionals, such as Musicians, Fashion Designers, Artists, Architects, Business Owners and even Authors like Dandilyon Jinx, to finally realize it is much more then leisure time spent.

People who want to learn the developing skills necessary to possibly
develop a program as successful as Second Life can find info at http://www.onlineuniversitydegree.org.
In the Internet age, programs such as Second Life will be popular for many
years to come.

SL ARTS & LITERATURE: “Sikh Life” Celebrates Traditions of Art, Literature, and Community Service

Singh Albatross and the Writer's Center at Sikh Life
I love talking to people about their passion!  Through out Second Life (SL) you can find people who have discovered the productive and creative means to explore and express themselves – to virtually “find their bliss.”  If we are lucky, they make the fruits of that exuberance available to others.   Singh Albatros is not a stranger to the metaverse. He wandered onto the grid many months ago and, like many of us, didn’t immediately find a place that engaged him.  Returning to do research for a short story, he became connected with the writing community and was inspired by the possibilities of SL as a tool.  “Sikh Life” (pronounced “seek life”) was born out of Singh’s passion, inspiration, and commitment to his faith with its basic tenants of tolerance, service, and the inspirations of poetry and music.
