SL Newser: 2012: The Year in Review- Bixyl Shuftan Reporting...

For Second Life, 2012 had it's triumphs, stumbles, and events that could be considered something of both. From the SL9B, to Premium perks, to Linden Lab policy changes, to "Pathfinding" and "Patterns," there were a number of impacts big and small, for better and for worse.

Lanai’s Diary: OMG I Gained the Holiday 10… -Lanai Jarrico

2012 was filled with all sorts of news, events, drama and whatnot and on top of it all I stepped on my scale this morning and it went up a notch or two…or ten!   I had a rough year so I indulged in many holiday cookies as well as big traditional family dinners. I guess I’ll kick off the year doing Zumba.  Just not today…

Besides the holiday 10, things are finally getting back to some normalcy on the home front and I’m easing my way back into my virtual office.  I think 2013 will be an interesting year and I’m excited to share what I'm up to.

I went ahead and threw myself head first into a new project here in Second Life © and accepted the position to co-host a talk show on Pulse TV Network. The show is called Girl Talk and is slated to begin production in January 2013.  I must warn you all that I have no previous talk show experience, my opinions may be a little off tilt, too real for some or have nothing to do with the topic at all, but I think it may be worth checking out.

I feel  it is about time I expand my virtual media horizons and do something that may potentially embarrass myself and blemish my already questionable reputation or  it could catapult me into some sort of superstar situation where I can no longer hide behind the scenes and handle my business like the wizard of Oz did.

I would like to see new things happen this year in Second Life. Many of us need to break away from the repetitive nature of the current environment and introduce new ideas and even people from the real world.  The virtual world has been around a long time but we are still in need of mainstream attention. New people bring new ideas and it helps keep things fresh and interesting.

If I’m going to step out from behind the curtain, I need your help. I would like to hear from the community so I can help improve your experience. If you have a topic idea you would like me to address an issue or interview someone, please feel free to email me at lanai_jarrico@yahoo.com

From the Desk of Lanai Jarrico: A Glance Back at 2012: I’m so ready for 2013.

Now that the hustle and bustle of the Christmas Holiday is winding down and the year is wrapping up, many are preparing for 2013 all around the world.  I'm glad that this year is coming to an end, it was a rough one. I find myself looking back at 2012 with mixed emotions; cautiously looking ahead. Since Doomsday didn’t snuff us out and with the Fiscal Cliff issue  looming in front of us. I’m kind of on the fence about the real world and unsure what to expect.

In the real world, between the increasingly out of place weather patterns, and tragic headlines to the whole 2nd Amendment Right to bear arms debate.  I’m not sure I want help for my shameless Second Life© addiction. I believe it is safer than any synthetic marijuana high or bath salt binge I could go on and I certainly don’t want to deal with getting mugged, carjacked or shot at.   OK, Maybe.  I’m getting a little bit too paranoid here.  I’m just saying…It is a crazy world we are living in and I think some things need to change for the better so we can all feel safer in our own cities, towns and neighborhoods.

In Second Life, we don’t have to worry about bodily harm unless we face plant our keyboards due to lack of sleep, but we do need to protect ourselves from ignorant people that are negative and have absolutely no clue what business or even personal ethics consist of.  I think reputations and integrity need to be valued more.  Those with bad intensions need to find a new hobby to make room for those that can bring back the excitement of Second Life’s innovative digital culture.

My hope for 2013 is that this year is better than last and the issues that are most important to us are addressed and resolved. This will help us move forward in both worlds.

Have a Safe and Happy New Year wherever you are in the world. I look forward to a new year of experiences, news, event and ideas.

xoxo

Lanai

What's Your New Year Resolution? -Coco Lierfatte Reporting...

At the start of every year people set a specific goal, one that they find obtainable within a year. Some of us succeed at obtaining our goals, and some do not. I got to talk to several people about what their goals are for last year and this coming year. There are a lot of great resolutions for the new year, but I only could choose ten.

SLBR News: Second Life in 2012: A Year in Review- InKline Media Reporting...

Note: Clearly this list is by no means definitive and likely subject to much debate.

With the new year is just rapidly closing in, it’s the time of year when media starts rolling out their “best of” stories to kill air-time and column inches. So here’s what we believe makes this year’s list and why.
10) Digital Financial Center - Rumors have raged on about the possiblity of a new stock exchange opening on SL. SLBR can now confirm that the new exchange, Digitial Financial, will open on January 1st, 2013.
9) Second Life Community Convention Canceled in 2012 – Many observers, including the astute blogger Inara Pey of ModemWorld.Com, noted that SLCC had started to attract smaller and smaller crowds in the lead-up to the cancelation. Still, this year marked a symbolic splintering of the SL community.
