Pirate Invasion Benefits SU2C, September 18th

Every year, on September 19, people around the world celebrate International Talk Like A Pirate Day. Because that's a Monday, and a lot of people will be too busy at work to tip flagons of grog and mead while dancing with fifteen of our cohorts on a dead man's chest, The Storyteller's Sandbox will offer the opportunity to get in the spirit of the high seas a day early.   The Lake on Kultivate Magazine’s home region of Water Haven will be transformed into the Quay at the infamous Shipwreck Cove, where the Pirate Lords have landed to celebrate with tales and high seas hijinks. Seanchai Library is teaming up with the popular Second Life arts publication to present this piratical celebration on Sunday September 18, 2016 from 3 - 5:30 PM SLT.

The stories will be live, presented in voice. Guests are strongly encouraged to come dressed for the occasion, whether as brigands or wenches or whatever outfit they've got stashed away in Davy Jones' Locker.

The following performers are scheduled to present stories in the immersive nautical setting, beginning at 3:00PM:

·         Kayden O’Connell and Bryn Taleweaver will read selections from “Treasure Island” by Robert Louis Stevenson.
·         Caledonia Skytower will read selections from “Women Pirates” by Anne Myers.
·         Shandon Loring will read from “Dead Men Tell No Tales” a collection of stories from the Pirates of the Caribbean.
·         R. Crap Mariner will read various pirate tales from his 100 Word Stories collection.

Afterward, guests are invited to kick up their heels and dance among the ships and scallywags at Water Haven to the shredding tunes of Anek Fuchs.

The celebration, from X-marks-the-Spot to Pieces-Of-Eight, will benefit Stand Up to Cancer, a program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation.  Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now. SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers and mandates collaboration among the cancer community. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C has set out to generate awareness, educate the public on cancer prevention and help more people diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors.

“Shandon floods the Library pretty regularly, and brings the fleet in for pirate adventures.  They’ve always been incredibly popular, and International Talk Like A Pirate Day has just become part of Seanchai’s culture,” said Staff Lead Caledonia Skytower.  “We were excited when John and Eleseren Brianna graciously made their lake available for this event. Our last Storytellers’ Sandbox was so successful, we are pleased to be able to combine that outreach program with our love of pirate stories, and offer some wicked fun and silliness to this effort.”  August’s Storyteller Sandbox event featured a variety of voice talent from around the grid in a showcase of story presentation, and their tales were enjoyed by more than 50 attendees.
