The Indie Scene in Second Life- Piers Diesel Reporting...

In Second Life we are fortunate to have a vast genre of music to suit everyone’s taste in music.

Indie music and the indie underground movement in Second Life, is as popular as it is in Real Life. The three genre of music which dominates the Second Life music scene are:

  • Tech/dance/trance
  • Indie
  • Country

Indie music is a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United Kingdom and the United States in the 1980s. Indie bands in Real Life such as the Artic Monkeys, Babyshambles, Beck, Kasabian and many more can be heard spinning from the DJs in Second Life. However, you will find a lot more underground indie groups which may not have made it main stream but have a good following of fans.

So where do you go if you want to hear indie music in Second Life?

Here is a list of a few clubs in Second Life where you will be able to listen to indie and alternative music.

Chasing Indie
A mixture of shopping during the day but at night the club opens. An industrial look effect.

Here you will find a wide variety of indie music also alternative tunes spun by DJs across the world. Nice club small but yet inviting.

Unknown Pleasures: Transmission Club
Here you will find indie to alternative music as well as other genre such as new wave and of course punk or as they call it post punk. Underground effect club with a twist.

Reading the description for the club is quiet interesting as I have never thought of seen these two concepts mixed together gallery, space and also indie music, so will copy it here for you to read also

“Established by Lux Chiantelle in 2012, the gallery and hangout known as Suntory Time had an instant following among cult art worshipers and fine art aficionados. While the space is relaxing and fun, the focus is on the art. Currently providing a regular music event, "Suntory Saturday Nights," with a rotating schedule of the grid's best DJ's spinning everyone's favorite indie music. Come join them every Saturday night, 7-9 p.m. (Pacific) or stop by any time.”
The club is in the corner of the gallery which may sound small but is set out fine enough space to hold a small gathering of listeners.

The club has been decorated in bright colors and is a small but yet again another inviting club. Here you will find:
AAI - An Alternative Indie Club...
Aurally Atmospheric Indie
Abandoned Abased Indie
Abnormal Abolished Indie
Abound Above Indie
Abrasive Absolute Indie.
It is an invite only group with a good number of residents in Second Life who are members around 625 members.

Overall the Indie scene in Second Life is here to stay with such a large number of residents being members of indie club groups or attending clubs playing indie music. Indie has evolved threw out the years and I am sure as indie evolves Second Life will be not far behind.
