How to Protect your PC from Hack Attacks – Shaneos Howlett Reporting

In this report we take the experience of yours truely that has a Diploma in Information Technology – P.C & User Technical support along with years of experience and learn how we can easily safe guard and protect an average windows pc from hack attempts in a few easy steps and most importantly FREE steps :)

There are two main operating systems for computers; Linux based and Windows based PC's.  Linux based pc's are not as easy to break in to / damage as windows PCs – for this reason – we will concentrate on the Windows based pc's.

Keeping your Second Life viewer program up to date.
Old versions of software can have bugs or problems that allow a hacker to cause havoc on your computer – for this reason it is always a good idea to make sure you are running the latest or most up to date version of the software on your computer.

You can download the latest version of second life by going to the following link ....

Next, let‘s look at your firewall
A firewall is a piece of software that blocks all the ports on your computer.
What are ports ?  Ports are like postal address on your computer that allow connections for various things – port 80 is for HTML / browsing via web browsers and internet communications.
A firewall will monitor the open ports, will close the ports not used or required and will monitor traffic on the open ports.
Hackers use open ports to gain access to your computer – without proper monitoring software – hackers can easily access your computer.

Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 all have adequate firewall software
Just make sure that the settings for the firewall are activated and turned on – you can find the settings for this under firewall under system settings from control panel.

For those wanting an alternative to the windows firewall software – they can use Zone Alarm from ...

Now let’s look at the Anti-Virus program .
A proper working anti-virus program will scan every program and every file on your computer and should notify you immediately if it detects anything of a concern.
For this reason I recommend AVG Anti Virus – it is FREE and is a proven software for monitoring any virus activity on your computer – if a hacker tries to email you a virus – the anti-virus program will pick it up immediately and will either delete or disinfect the infected file.

Lastly let‘s learn about a DOS attack or a Denial of Service attack
Every computer connected to the internet has an I.P address for example 127.0.0.1 – without telling people how to do it – a person only needs to obtain an i.p address of a computer and then flood the address to crash the computer or cause a substantial loss in activity on the persons computer – if you feel you have been a victim of this type of attack – just turn off your modem and reconnect to the internet – 90% of computers have a changing I.P address and doing this will re-set your I.P address to a new one and will stop the attacker until they locate your current I.P address.

There are many other ways you can protect your computer – too many programs can slow down your computer and make it almost useless  and you feel paranoid to use the computer .

With the proper protection and knowledge as mentioned above – you will be covered from basic to intermediate attacks.
