To those music fundi’s out there, we have a treat in store
for you. We featured a relative
newcomer to the Second Life music scene a couple of weeks back and now you can
hear his amazing talent for yourselves.
This musician is none other than Dainial and he will be performing live
on Music Island on Sunday April 14th, at 12 noon SLT.
The concert will feature some familiar jazz compositions and
new work.
The first of these is “Na seandaoine" (translated from the Irish that means
"the old people) Using completely
new instruments, the work includes authentic voices singing in the Irish
language against an orchestral and electronic score. Dainial has said that he is "excited and
nervous about this one, because all the instruments are new"
The second, longer work is called "Dreams of another
home" and is a continuous score (over 18 minutes) rich in melody and
harmony. Dainial says it "imagines
the journey of a child from a small seaside village, to the larger world, and
finally back to the village again".
Dainial has been been composing music for about 10 years,
mainly for Jazz ensembles and is using the opportunity in Second Life to
"step across" and become a musician.
He pre-records each part himself on various electronic keyboards, and
for concerts he plays one instrument live, usually the Saxophone. His music has been described as "lyrical
and accessible". He draws
inspiration from his native Irish language and music, as well as European and
Arabic folk traditions
If you want to be part of a musical experience second to
none then come on over to Music Island on April 14th at 12 noon SLT.
