Fantasy takes on many forms, it is a genre of fiction that uses magic and other supernatural phenomena, many mythical creatures can be found in the world of fantasy, with all it’s folklore and mystery.
Almost, if not all fantasies in real life can be relived in Second Life, some residents explore the aspects of fantasy occasionally, while others form communities and live the lifestyle to it’s fullest potential, through cos-play and role-play.
COS-PLAY
Cos-play (short for costume play) is a type of performance art in which participants don costumes and accessories to represent a specific character or idea. Favorite sources include manga and anime, comic books, video games and films.
ROLE-PLAY
Role-playing refers to the changing of one's behavior to assume a role either unconsciously to fill a social role, or consciously to act out an adopted role, role-playing is defined as "the changing of one's behavior to fulfill a social role.
There are many fantasy costumes and complete avatars available Some residents will have an avatar that is clearly human male or female and some will have an avatar where the gender is less obvious, or entirely androgynous.
Also, there are many non-human avatars, such as Furries or Hybrids, Neko (feline) Inu (canine) Nezume (mouse/rat) and Kitsune (fox) that have more of human shape and features, but distinct skin markings, ears and tail.
Other avatars of semi human form available are Angels, Demons, Mermaids, Centaurs and even the Na’vi from the James Cameron movie Avatar. Costumes from many cartoon characters can also be found from science fiction to super heros.
The whole concept of fantasy in Second Life is amazing, it allows us to live out our dreams and discover new ones that we never thought possible, it’s all about exploring and adventure, however if you do practice any form of role-play, stay within the boundaries of your role-play limits, abide by the sims rules and respect your friends regarding their role-playing limits also and remember at the end of the day when you are out of character that it’s all about experiencing new places and making new friends, that is the beauty of Second Life and fantasy.
