In the Spotlight: Model/Host-Manager Jovial Jewell talks about her modeling work and being a Host-Manager at Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Lounge

Today’s SL Enquirer Spotlight falls on nearly-three year old avatar Jovial Jewell, who spoke this afternoon/evening with SLE staff reporter Ramon Federal about her two SL careers, one as a high-fashion model and one as Host-Manager of Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Lounge.

Jovial, who sat for her interview in a flowing white dress, was trained by Ewing Modeling School, where she “learned…about styling my outfits and how to walk the runway,” and has also been an instructor there. “I have been in many shows for designers like Chez Gabrielle and Fierce Designs. Also Hotlala Designs.”

Being a model in Second Life is very satisfying for Jovial. Asked what she likes best about the work, she said, “I love the fashion industry, love the fashion industry. I've always wanted to be a model in RL, so this lets me live that out a bit.” She also mentioned that she usually gets to keep the clothes she models, no small perk when working for the designers she has.

The most recent show she’s modeled in was last year’s SL Glam show, and she still has places she models for, like Loveli Inc.

Like its First Life counterpart, Second Life modeling is a competitive affair. Jovial explains: “Usually there is a casting call whether you work for an agency or just on your own. The models are picked either from the pool of models at an agency or from the casting call they hold.” Asked, “Is the competition usually pretty severe?,” she replied,“Yes, most of the time many models try out for one show.”
Asked what she enjoys most about her modeling work, Jovial stated, “Putting my outfits together to show them [at their best] for the designers. I want to make people want to buy the clothing. Plus it is fun, I enjoy runway and photo shoots [and]…you get to meet a lot of people.”
When not modeling, Jovial works as a Host-Manager at Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Lounge, at: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Bella%20Vida/128/206/22. Bella Vida is primarily a venue for live music performances, but that’s not all. Says Jovial: “We have many live performers, in fact, Smoothe Sapphire just finished up. We have live performances and/or DJs every night. We also have a ballroom in the sky, [a] yacht club, a winter wedding chapel and cuddle and kiss areas near the waterfall. It's very romantic.”
She continues: “We have many good crowds for our performers, many people say they enjoy dancing here. We have the top shops and designers like Gold in the Night, Bliss Couture and My Precious. We have rental shops and they have their clothing lines or jewelry.” Asked about the kind of music featured at Bella Vida Velvet Jazz Club, Jovial says “ We are primarily jazz, but like to ring in many other genres. We will be having a hunt with the shops next month with lots of great prizes. We plan wonderful events along with our performances; for example, tonight we have trivia.”
The satisfaction she gets from her work at the club is similar to that which she gets from modeling: She say she most enjoys, “meeting the people and the challenges that come up. I love making sure people have a great time and being sure our hosts and hostesses are well trained to do this also.” That training includes learning how to “greet [guests] as they come in and just be friendly and ready to help should they need anything. Send out announcements for our performers. but most of all just take care of our patrons.”
Asked about her plans for the future, Jovial Jewell told SLE, “I plan to stay here as well as look for more modeling jobs. In fact I may not have to look far; we plan to have shows here in the future, fashion shows.”
Asked to sum up the satisfactions she gets from her various Second Life work activities, Jovial first made sure readers would know “one more thing about the club: we have a swan ride and a paddle boat ride and we specialize in romance.”
Then she wrapped up her interview by saying, “I love the satisfaction of showing the outfits on the runway or in photo shoots in the best way possible. Allowing people to want to buy them. I like helping to maintain the quality atmosphere we have here at Bella Vida. We are classy,” she concluded, but we like to have fun, too.”
