In 1982 he entered the Rotterdam Conservatory, but family business needed him badly. Now, a few years later, it's Music Time again. Time for a second career...and hey, a Second Life as well !
The music of JooZz is best described as “coming from nowhere, going places”. Starting from scratch, JooZz takes you along to many exciting musical destinations, transferring breathtaking vistas into jewels of brilliant sound. Sometimes danceable, always rich, spiked with healthy doses of melancholy and lessons of life. Using the piano as a base point of reference, JooZz’s compositions, independent of any music style, keep your mind in motion until the next time you hit the ‘play’ button.
SANDY: Where are you from?
JooZz:The Netherlands, city of Rotterdam
SANDY:How long have you been playing music?JooZz:I’ve been playing piano since the age of 6
SANDY:How would you describe your style?
JooZz:Jazzy funky loungy (JFL)
SANDY:You are a composer too,how long does it take to write a piece of music?JooZz:It varies, obviously. It can be an hour or weeks. Somewhere in between I'd say. What takes longer is the 'how to play it'.
SANDY:How prolific are you?
JooZz:Writing 3 tunes a day when 'the light is on', then for weeks there's nothing. When it comes to true labour, a song a day is possible.
SANDY:What do you spend the most time on:music or lyrics?
JooZz:Hardly write lyrics, most of my music is just music
SANDY:Which acts have most inspired you?
JooZz:Carlos Santana, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Jeff Beck, George Duke and so on and so on
SANDY:Except for other musicians what else inspires you?
JooZz:My feeling, my inner urge to play...
SANDY:Which song would you most like to have written?JooZz:Blue in Green by Miles Davis
SANDY:How did you discover Second Life?
JooZz:I heard about it in a TV program .
SANDY:And what brought you inworld?JooZz:Persistence:although at the time I entered SL my highest PC/Internet achievement was to be able to send an email message wÃth attachment, I immediately knew I wanted to learn all about it. Finding out you could perform was it!
SANDY:What do you think about SL as a source of ispiration?JooZz;What an excellent way of working on my music, my performance. And best part, meeting people from everywhere....and without leaving a carbon footprint. I learned a lot playing in here, gained some confidence, met wonderful fans and read some very sweet words when I played. But the outdoors are calling, I'd like to go out and play more in RL. So that's where the focus is at right now.
SANDY:Did you ever think to use your real name for what you usually do in Second Life?
JooZz:My real stage name is JooZz. Avatar is called JooZz.
SANDY:What do you like to do here in Second Life when you are not playing?JooZz:Get inspired
SANDY:Do you like shopping or going to music concerts or art exhibits?JooZz:Live music, but only real music.
SANDY:Do you think SL can be a valid showcase for your RL works?
JooZz:JooZz:I'm me in here, only RL part that's missing is smell (I prefer to smell like Jacomo de Jacomo - black bottle, blue letters). So what I do in here fully represents what I do in RL, no backing tracks or tricks, just original music played live.
SANDY:In SL you have opened a live music venue:can you explain to us why did you start this virtual adventure and what are your aims, business or just fun?
JooZz:I wanted to have a place where I could perform whenever I feel like it.
SANDY:Do you use other kind of digital promotions?JooZz:I"m on lots of sites, MySpace, YouTube, ReverbNation, AllAbout Jazz, JazzNetworkWorldwide to name some.
SANDY:Where do you see yourself a year from now:will Second Life still exist?
JooZz:Less on SL stages more on RL stages. But SL will be there.
